This prominent Federal Government Department is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Media Officer to manage and enhance the department's media presence. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of two years of experience working in a Government media team in an issues rich enviornemnt. This role demands a proactive approach to handling media relations in an issues-rich environment, with a focus on hot-button topics.
Key Responsibilities:
Handle challenging media enquirie
Maintain strong relationships with key media contacts.
Develop and implement media strategies to effectively communicate the department's messages.
Write and distribute press releases, ensuring accuracy and alignment with departmental policies.
Craft clear and compelling messages for the senior leadership team.
Act as a spokesperson for the department, dealing with media inquiries and managing media relations.
Monitor media coverage and provide timely advice to senior leadership on emerging issues.
Collaborate with internal stakeholders to ensure consistent and coherent messaging.
Key Requirements:
At least two years of experience working in a media team at a Federal Government Department or Agency.
Proven experience in dealing with the media on hot-button issues.
Demonstrated ability to write high-quality press releases and craft messages for senior leadership.
Strong understanding of the media landscape and issues management.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple priorities.
Baseline security clearance (or the ability to obtain one).
Australian citizenship is mandatory.
