Detailed Position Information
The University of Alabama School of Social Work invites applications for a Practicum Education Coordinator at the rank of Instructor. This is a three-year renewable, non-tenure earning faculty position (full-time, 12-month) to begin January 2025. This is not a remote position.
We seek a collaborative, forward-thinking colleague to teach practicum integrative seminar and other practicum-related practice courses; recruit practicum agencies for the practicum internship program; match students with practicum agencies; make liaison placements; and assist in providing orientation, training, and supervision for students, practicum instructors, and faculty liaisons. In addition to administrative responsibilities in the Practicum Education Program and teaching, the successful candidate will engage in service to the School, University, and profession.
The School of Social Work Office of Experiential Programs and Community Partnerships coordinates student internships in community organizations and engages students simultaneously in both classroom and practice learning during the academic year. Intern sites are in Alabama, across the nation, and abroad. The Practicum Education Coordinator, Instructor will be a member of the Practicum Team and report to the Director of Experiential Programs and Community Partnerships. Some travel is required.
Successful candidates must have an MSW degree from a CSWE-accredited institution, at least three years of post-MSW social work experience, and preferably licensed to practice social work at the LCSW level in Alabama or be license-eligible. Previous practicum education experience and/or classroom teaching experience are expected. Applicants should be eager to work with students in both the undergraduate and master’s programs and have interest and expertise in reaching our diverse student body through in-person and online education. In addition, applicants will engage in developing resources and building relationship with agencies needed in practicum education.
