Our organization is seeking a Substance Abuse Counselor to work with our diverse population in an outpatient setting. The successful candidate will have excellent verbal and written communication skills and will be able to engage individuals in thought-provoking and productive conversations about their substance abuse issues. Candidates with professional experience are preferred, but we are willing to train the right individual if they show a sincere interest in helping people. Responsibilities including but not limited too:
Work 40 hours per week (occasional weekends and evening groups)
Counsel one-on-one with clients about their substance abuse problems.
Counsel clients about mental health or other co-occuring disorders.
Provide information about addiction and recovery support services.
Provide regular individual, group and lecutre counseling.
Records and documents clinical interventions in client files/charts daily in accordance with BHA/COMAR regulations
Responsible for submitting timely reports, Initial recovery, Biopsychosocial, continuum of care and discharge plans as required.
Work with families and other caretakers to help them understand the nature of addiction and recovery from addiction.
Work with drug courts and community treatment programs to help offenders get into and maintain recovery programs.
Provide safety plans, crisis intervention, and referrals for participants in cooperation with the medical department and established agency guidelines.

Experience:
Addiction counseling: 1 year (Preferred)
