Essential Job Function
- Field purchasing for Pipefitting, Plumbing, and Sheetmetal trades
- Vendor Relations
- Equipment ordering
- Purchase materials and services for construction operations.
- Solicit bids, analyze quotations and select suppliers.
- Interview prospective vendors.
- Edit material requisitions and issue purchase orders.
- Maintain records of material, prices, inventories and deliveries.
- Alert the Purchasing Manager of items requiring special attention.
- Provide timely information on department’s ability to supply unscheduled or rush orders requiring abbreviated lead times.
- Contact suppliers about deliveries and schedule changes where necessary.
- Facilitate return of incorrect or overage of surplus materials and warranty returns.
- Collaborate within the purchasing department along with other departments of the company to promote better client and supplier relations.
- Cross train with others in the purchasing department to be able to support them during high volume or vacation periods.
- Assist, when necessary, with all Purchasing Department responsibilities.
- Order, track, and call off rental equipment for field personnel.
- Work with others in Purchasing to decide on vendors and terms for rental agreements.
- Work with Accounts Payable on billing discrepancies and vendor terms.
- Participate in negotiations with material pricing contracts with suppliers.
- Assist Estimating with pricing updates, and assist in soliciting bids for items for estimating
- Credit card purchases.
- Work within the purchasing team to solicit bulk material order bids, and set up discount structures for small short orders.
- Work with vendors on warranty and back charge disputes.
- Order equipment and support project managers and project engineers.
- Procurement of specialty items.
- Input field generated orders into purchase orders in Viewpoint software system.
- Assist with inventory and inventory purchase order entry.
- Work within the Viewpoint system to provide an accurate committed cost system.
- Analyze budgets to confirm prices paid for goods are lower than estimating bids
- Explore new ways of becoming more productive, efficient, and profitable.
- Work with all internal clients and perform at a very high level of client service at all times.
- Participate in Purchasing Department monthly meetings.
- Work with subcontractors to get to a Master Subcontract Agreement (MSA) with MTech
- Issue PO’s to subcontractors not being held retention, and field requested subs (coring, GPR, etc)
- Read specifications to confirm which products are to be procured and gather submittals for submission
- Sorting parts in the warehouse and some lifting may be required
- Work with project manager and project engineers to gather information and quote, negotiate, and procure plumbing fixture packages.
- Regular and predictable attendance is expected in order to meet the requirements of this position
Qualifications
- High School diploma/GED required
- 2 years of construction purchasing experience preferred
- Background in construction purchasing or sales preferred (familiarity with pipefitting and plumbing materials is a plus)
- Ability to communicate effectively both orally, in writing, via email, phone and texting
- Excellent data entry skills and overall computer skills (including typing and working with multiple programs)
- Must be detail oriented with excellent multi-tasking ability
- Outstanding time management and organizational skills with the ability to maintain effective relationships with internal and external clients
