Job Description
Under general supervision from the print shop supervisor, operates printing machines having a sheet size larger than 11×17 but smaller than 17×22 inches for work requiring critical registration and complex multi-color overlays as well as black and white printing; operates smaller offset printing machines and related print shop equipment; maintains equipment. Serves as lead worker, i.e., provides work direction, training, and mentoring of lower-level printing machine operators and/or other trades workers performing related craft duties.
Adheres to all OSHA and/or Ohio University required safety guidelines.
Operates peripheral or related equipment (e.g. cutters, binders, punches, collators, folders, etc.); performs related tasks such as moving stock, mixing ink, etc.
Cleans, maintains, adjusts, and makes minor repairs on printing machines.
Performs other related duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications
- Knowledge of printing machine operation, including complex, multi-color overlay and critical registration, print shop practices and procedures
- Skill in printing
- Ability to understand mechanical procedures
- Produce high quality printing jobs, sort items into categories
- Ability to carry out instructions in written, oral, and pictorial form
- Work independently or with others in a diverse environment
- Demonstrate dexterity and skill in use of craft-associated hand &/or power tools & equipment
- Read & write common vocabulary in sentence structure
- Add, subtract, multiply & divide whole numbers, calculate fractions, decimals & percentages
- Ability to apply principles to solve practical problems
- Knowledge of all applicable OSHA and/or Ohio University safety guidelines and procedures.
- Lift up to 50 lbs
- 24 months experience operating printing machines with a minimum of 12 months experience operating printing machines larger than 11×17 but smaller than 17×22 to produce high quality printing requiring critical registration and complex multi-color overlays; or equivalent
- Successful completion of a test may be required
- May be exposed to dangerous equipment; dirt, odors, fumes, cramped conditions, and may be required to stand for long periods of time
- An established pattern of good work habits and performance with good interpersonal skills.
