Outreach Advisor

Position Summary

This position is primarily focused and responsible for recruiting prospective students to the College as well as assisting students with program planning, transfer information, course selections, and registration.
Salary: Appropriate placement on Salary Schedule E3, Grade 4: $39,759 - $57,251
Work Hours: Monday through Thursday, 7:45 a.m. - 5:15 p.m.; Friday 7:45 a.m. - 11:45 a.m.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Share knowledge of Calhoun programs and offerings in various environments with the goal of recruiting new students to Calhoun Community College.
  • Serve as the primary recruiter for schools in Calhoun’s service area and surrounding areas, as needed.
  • Represent Calhoun Community College at college fairs, job fairs, business and industry and other events.
  • Collaboratively develop effective presentations and activities to convey what Calhoun can offer and the benefits of attending.
  • Conduct classroom presentations in area high schools, middle schools, and career centers.
  • Schedule and host business, industry, and college tours for high school students and other groups.
  • Review the Calhoun Catalog annually to become familiar with changes affecting prospective and current student enrollments.
  • Maintain knowledge of financial aid opportunities for prospective and current students.
  • Maintain a general knowledge of other college policies and procedures including academic support, and student activities.
  • Develop and maintain partnerships with high school administrators, business and industry contacts, and community agencies and organizations.
  • Engage in training and continuously monitor enrollment processes at the College.
  • Recruit and advise assigned prospective students utilizing the CRM software through personal appointments, telephone conversations, and/or written correspondence (including but not limited to e-mail).
  • Seek out, participate, and present at professional development related to the position.
  • Maintain a positive attitude that contributes to a professional, team-centered environment.
  • Use technology effectively for word processing, record-keeping, instructional applications, electronic communication, information and data management.
  • Ability to work outside of assigned hours, including evenings and/or weekends, on an “as scheduled/needed” basis for Recruitment events.
  • Comply with policies of the Alabama Community College System Board of Trustees and the College.
  • Travel to service area schools and training sessions.
  • Complete requisitions and purchase orders.
  • Ordering of supplies for department.
  • Perform all duties with professionalism.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • A minimum of a Bachelor's degree in business, marketing, communications, education or related field from an accredited institution is required.
  • Experience conducting presentations, training, workshops, etc. is required.
  • Experience in sales, recruiting or higher education is required.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license and ability to be insurable is required.
  • Documented experience in the use of current educational technologies in the classroom including word processing, spreadsheet, database, and presentation software (e.g. Microsoft Word, Power Point, Excel, etc.) is required.
Preference will be given to candidates who can demonstrate through their experiences and accomplishments.
  • Effective human relations skills, professionalism, enthusiasm and commitment to career exploration.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Experience in the use of a CRM (Customer Relationship Management) System or related sales software.
  • Knowledge of current employment trends.
  • Knowledge of Calhoun Community College and the Alabama Community College System.
  • Knowledge of technical and terminal programs and curriculum.
  • Knowledge of FERPA.
  • Ability to utilize and search the internet for information.
  • Experience in the use of current educational technologies in the classroom including word processing, spreadsheet, database, and presentation software (e.g. Microsoft Word, Power Point, Excel, etc.).
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize issues.
  • Ability to maintain confidential information.
  • Ability to work and communicate with a variety of people from diverse backgrounds.
  • Ability to utilize email systems to communicate information.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision/ work independently.

Sick Leave
All regular full-time non-instructional staff earns one day of sick leave which is the equivalent of 8 hours of sick leave per month. Unused sick leave is rolled over to the following year. Upon retirement, employees are allowed to convert unused sick time into service time for the purpose of retirement. Up to 10 days a year of professional development leave with pay may be granted by the President.

Retirement
The TRS was established in 1939 to provide benefits to qualified persons employed by state-supported educational institutions. Responsibility for the management and administration of the TRS is vested in its Board of Control. The Boards of Control elect the Secretary-Treasurer who serves as the Chief Executive Officer of the RSA and is responsible for the day-to-day management of the RSA. All regular full-time and part-time employees (non-temporary and non- student) who work at least 20 hours per week are required to participate in The Teachers' Retirement System of Alabama.
Tier I - Pays 7.50% monthly. State matches 12.59% (effective 10/01/22)
Tier II – Pays 6.20% monthly. State matches 11.44% (effective 10/01/22)
Law Enforcement Officers:

Health Insurance
PEEHIP, established in 1983, provides health insurance benefits for active and retired education employees and is governed by the PEEHIP Board of Control. The wellness premium applies only to the Blue Cross Blue Shield Hospital Medical Group #14000 plan for non-Medicare eligible active and retired members, non-Medicare-eligible members on LOA or COBRA, and non-Medicare-eligible spouses on active or retired contracts. Refer to the Wellness Program section to learn how you and/or your spouse can receive a wellness premium waiver.

If desired, the employee may elect four options rather than health insurance options to include hospital indemnity, cancer, dental, and vision.

Tuition Assistance
This tuition waiver program is designed for all full-time instructional and non-instructional employees of The Alabama College System and the Alabama Department of Postsecondary Education and their dependents as defined under by policy. The program will be coordinated by each institution for employees within The Alabama College System and the Alabama Department of Postsecondary Education. An application form for the tuition assistance program is available in the Human Resources office and should be completed prior to registration for classes.

Employees/Dependents at two-year colleges:
  • 1/3 waived after 1st year
  • 2/3 waived after 2nd year
  • 3/3 waived after 3rd year
