The Health Department has three major offices: Population Health, Clinical Services and Outreach, and Administration and Organizational Development. Each office works collaboratively with external partners and the community to create a public health system that supports the health of Detroiters across their lifespan.

Examples of Duties

MEDICAL ASSISTANT

• Greet and register patients, ensuring accurate collection of personal and medical information for effective service delivery.
• Prepare clients for examinations by explaining procedures, ensuring comfort, and gathering necessary medical history.
• Measure and record vital signs (e.g., blood pressure, heart rate, temperature) to assist healthcare providers in patient assessment.
• Support healthcare providers during examinations and procedures by providing necessary instruments and maintaining a sterile environment.
• Provide information on health maintenance and wellness, addressing any questions or concerns to enhance patient understanding and compliance.

Minimum Qualifications

MEDICAL ASSISTANT

• High School Diploma or GED
• Medical Assistant Certification
• 1 years of experience

EQUIVALENCY

• Equivalent combinations of education and experience that provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities will be evaluated on an individual basis.

Medical Assistants:

• 
  Clinical Skills: Proficiency in performing clinical tasks such as taking vital signs, administering injections, and assisting with examinations.
• Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills for effective patient interaction and documentation.
• Organization: Ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently, including scheduling appointments and maintaining patient records.
• Technical Proficiency: Familiarity with electronic health record systems and medical office software.
