Essential responsibilities:
- Plan and direct library program for inmates.
- Develop library policies and programs and prepare operational budgets.
- Provide readers' advisory services on the basis of knowledge of current reviews and bibliographies.
- Select, acquire and organize library materials for convenient access.
- Review requests and select books and other library materials according to mental state, educational background, and special needs of inmates.
- Assemble book reviews for institution's bulletins or newspapers and circulates reviews among inmates.
- Provide disabled or bedridden inmates with reading aids, such as prism glasses, page turners, book stands, talking books or phonograph records.
- Promote the development of positive social skills through modeling appropriate behaviors and intervening when inappropriate behaviors are observed.
- A Master's of Library Science (MLS) is required. A bachelor’s degree may be substituted for the Master's level requirement where the librarian is supervised by a full-time master level librarian in a multi-complex model.
- Must have one year of related experience.
- A valid Learning Resources Certification is required.
- A valid driver’s license in the state of Ohio with an acceptable driving record is required, unless waived by management.
- Must successfully complete all annual in-service requirements.
