Job Announcement
The City of Chandler Neighborhoods and Redevelopment Department is currently seeking qualified individuals interested in joining our team as a Housing Inspector. The position is scheduled to work 5 days, 8 hours.

Who we are
The City of Chandler Public Housing Authority is administered by the Housing and Redevelopment Division, which oversees and manages Public Housing units and the Housing Choice Voucher: (Section 8) program.
The division also operates and links to other supportive services for those living in affordable and federally subsidized housing programs. Our primary focus is to provide affordable rental housing for low-income households. On occasion, we develop, operate or link to other affordable housing opportunities.

Who we are looking for
Our new team member will have a passion for customer service, teamwork, and collaboration. We are looking for someone who will perform specialized office and fieldwork involving planning, implementing, and coordinating public housing, Section 8 housing and affordable housing unit inspection activities.

  • Performs housing unit inspections.
  • Identifies defects and inadequacies and informs appropriate individuals (landlords, tenants, etc.).
  • Schedules appointments for move-in, annual, re-inspections, and special inspections.
  • Provides inspection reports to landlords.
  • Educates public on housing quality standards, policies, rules, and regulations.
  • Assesses damages and establishes deadlines for work completion.
  • Conducts research of property owners, landlords and participants.
  • Prepares and maintains a variety of records related to applicable housing programs.
  • Performs administrative tasks in Yardi software and NSPIRE standards.
  • Testifies and presents information in administrative hearings and/or court proceedings.

Minimum qualifications
  • A High School Diploma or GED
  • 2 years of experience in public housing inspections or Section 8
  • Housing Quality Standards Certification within six (6) months of hire or promotion
  • Valid Driver's License with acceptable driving record
  • Any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the knowledge and abilities necessary to perform the work.
This is a regular full-time position, subject to a 6-month probationary period. A register of qualified candidates will be active for 4 months should another position become available.

The City of Chandler will conduct a pre-employment driving record check as a condition of employment. An offer of employment is contingent upon acceptable results. All applicants hired will be required to be fingerprinted with successful results as a condition of continued employment.

These policies have not been altered by the passage of Proposition 207. The use of recreational marijuana is a violation of the city’s Drug Free Workplace Policy. Certain positions within the city are required to submit to a pre-employment drug test. A positive result for drugs tested under the policy, including recreational marijuana, may be grounds for withdrawal of an offer of employment or volunteer opportunity. The examination process may vary if determined necessary.
