What you will be doing:
This professional Environmental Program Specialist 3 position within the Division of Spill Prevention and Response is part of the Contaminated Sites Program and manages a caseload of sites, working with responsible parties and their consultants to guide the parties through the regulatory process to site closure. Duties include regulatory oversight of the assessment and cleanup of contaminated sites, ensuring contamination does not pose a risk to human health or the environment, working with the public, maintaining information on program databases, participating in the development of technical guidance, and site inspections.

This position may be filled statewide. The work environment is friendly, professional, and collaborative. While primarily an office job, duties may include infrequent travel for site inspections.

• Oral and Written Communication: Expresses information (for example, ideas or facts) to individuals or groups effectively, taking into account the audience and nature of the information (for example, technical, sensitive, controversial); makes clear and convincing written and oral presentations; listens to others, attends to nonverbal cues, and responds appropriately.
• Negotiation: Works with others towards an agreement that may involve exchanging specific resources or resolving differences.

Special Notice:

• Valid Alaska Driver's License is required.
• 40 hour Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response HAZWOPER is required (can be obtained after hire)

Minimum Qualifications

Any combination of education and/or experience that provides the applicant with the following competencies

• Oral Communication: Expresses information (for example, ideas or facts) to individuals or groups effectively, taking into account the audience and nature of the information (for example, technical, sensitive, controversial); makes clear and convincing oral presentations; listens to others, attends to nonverbal cues, and responds appropriately.

Equivalent to those typically gained by:

A bachelor's degree from an accredited college in an environmental, physical, biological, or natural science; engineering; planning; or natural resources.
AND
Professional experience developing knowledge and skills in environmental regulations, pollution control, environmental damage recovery, or programs to improve or protect environmental quality; or learning to evaluate the potential environmental and socio-economic impacts of construction projects; prepare environmental documentation; and determine, negotiate, and monitor permitted activities.
