The Office of U.S. Senator-elect Ruben Gallego seeks a highly motivated, detail-oriented, and innovative Deputy Press Secretary based in Washington D.C. to join the communications team. This position will assist in developing and implementing communication strategies to effectively convey the Senator’s priorities, policies, and legislative initiatives to constituents, media outlets, and stakeholders. The ideal candidate is a skilled communicator, a strategic thinker, and a team player who thrives in a fast-paced environment. Salary: Competitive, commensurate with experience Key Responsibilities:
Assist in drafting press releases, statements, op-eds, talking points, and other media materials.
Build and maintain relationships with reporters and media outlets, proactively pitching stories and responding to inquiries.
Assist in drafting speeches, remarks, and messaging documents for the Senator’s public engagements.
Collaborate with legislative and policy staff to ensure accurate and impactful messaging on key issues.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, political science, or a related field.
Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in media, public relations, or communications (Capitol Hill, campaign, or government experience preferred).
Strong writing and editing skills with the ability to convey complex ideas in a clear and compelling manner.
Ability to work under pressure, meet tight deadlines, and adapt to changing priorities.
Familiarity with legislative processes and policy issues is a plus.
