Position Overview: The duties of the Dental Assistant are among the most comprehensive and varied in the SVT Health & Wellness Dental Program. Under supervision of the Dental Director, the Dental Assistant provides a range of clinical, administrative, and staff-support functions. The Dental Assistant position serves to assist the Dental Director and Dental Hygienist in the delivery of quality oral health care.
Duties & Responsibilities
Provide chair-side assistance to Dental Director or Dental Hygienist in the delivery of dental procedures.
Organize, sterilize, date and prepare dental equipment according to standard procedures.
Monitor and maintain dental equipment (including but not limited to compressors, radiographic developers, sterilizers and curing lights.)
Order and maintain inventory of dental clinic supplies.
Assist in preparation of patient care areas.
Maintain clean, organized and stocked operatory, laboratory, and reception area of dental clinic.
Understand and apply principles of aseptic technique and Universal Precautions for infection control.
Follow compliance requirements of OSHA and CLIA in procedures including but not limited to refrigeration temperatures, laboratory assurance tests, and autoclave spore tests.
Assist in patient referral process and patient follow-up care as directed or necessary.
Utilize Electronic Health Record for patient documentation
Recognize and respond to emergencies.
Cross train in Dental Patient Services Representative tasks to include taking phone calls, scheduling patients, patient intake, check-in/check-out, verifying insurance coverage, collecting payment for services, and promptly fill cancelations to maximize utilization of resources and staff to achieve and maintain optimum production.
Participate in SVT staff meetings and committees as required

Must be able to travel as required on a quarterly basis to other communities
Proficiency in Mac, PC, and Microsoft Office Products, required.
Experience using Electronic Health Records a plus.
Experience with Dentrix a plus.
Must be able to effectively use multiline phone, fax machine, scanner, and printer.
Job Requirements
Preferred completion of an accredited CDA program: Undergraduate Certificate in Dental Assisting or Associate’s Degree in Dental Assisting
Preferred 2+ Years' experience in a clinical environment (Willing to train new grads!)
Travel Requirements: Quarterly travel to Seldovia and Anchor Point. Travel to be conducted mostly as day-trips, but may include occasional overnight stays in Seldovia and is subject to inclement weather. Travel may occur by boat, plane, or car.
Employment Requirements:

Must undergo FBI Fingerprinting
Physical Demands:
This position requires the ability to wear Personal Protective Equipment such as a fitted respirator mask and protective examination gloves.
The nature of this position requires good manual dexterity.
Employee can expect to do the following activities 5.5+ hrs per day: Stand, Walk, Manually Manipulate, Lift/Carry 10 lbs or less, Push/Pull 12 lbs or less.
Employee can expect to do the following activities 2.5-5.5 hrs per day: Sit, Grasp, Lift/Carry 11-20 lbs, Push/Pull 13-40 lbs.
Employee can expect to do the following activities 0-2.5 hrs per day: Climb/Crawl/Squat/Kneel, Bend, Reach Outward or above, lift/carry 21-50 lbs.
Work Environment: The Dental program of SVT Health & Wellness is a fast-paced work environment and requires the ability to manage time and stress. Seldovia Village Tribe is a drug-free, alcohol-free, and tobacco-free work environment. An individual in this position may be exposed to communicable diseases or hazards common to a healthcare setting, including but not limited to needle stick wounds, chemicals, and tuberculosis. Work is generally conducted in a typical office setting. Travel between locations may be by small boat, small plane, or by car and is subject to inclement weather.
