Responsibilities
Peraton is seeking a versatile and experienced
Data Scientist to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. The ideal candidate will focus on analyzing telemetry data to enhance our monitoring systems and improve operational efficiency. Over time, you will expand your scope to encompass all aspects of data science within the organization, contributing to the development, training, and implementation of machine learning models across various departments. As general data science practitioners, you will play a pivotal role in driving data-driven decision-making and innovation throughout the organization. The qualified applicant will become part of Peraton's Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Infrastructure Managed Services (IMS) Program, for the US Coast Guard (CG). This initiative is modernizing and consolidating the operational environment under a common technology framework to better support the services provided to CGs customers.

Day to Day Work Responsibilities:
- Initial Focus
- Process and analyze large volumes of telemetry data. (Logs and Metrics).
- Identify patterns, trends, and anomalies to improve system monitoring and performance.
- Develop predictive models to anticipate potential system issues and optimize monitoring processes.
- Data Science Expansion
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify opportunities where data science can enhance business outcomes.
- Develop and implement machine learning models to solve complex business challenges across various domains.
- Contribute to the training and deployment of models for different datasets, including customer behavior, operational efficiency, and more.
- Data Engineering and Pipeline Development
- Design and build efficient data pipelines and ETL processes to prepare data for analysis and modeling.
- Work with both structured and unstructured data, ensuring data quality and integrity.
- Machine Learning and AI Implementation
- Apply advanced statistical techniques and machine learning algorithms to extract insights from large datasets.
- Stay updated with the latest advancements in AI and machine learning to introduce cutting-edge solutions.
- Data Visualization and Communication
- Create clear and compelling data visualizations to communicate findings to stakeholders.
- Present complex data insights in an understandable manner to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Collaboration and Mentorship
- Work closely with IT and other departments to integrate data insights into business strategies.
- Provide guidance and mentorship to junior data scientists or team members as needed.
- Continuous Learning and Innovation
- Explore new tools, technologies, and methodologies to enhance data analysis and modeling processes.
- Contribute to a culture of continuous improvement by sharing knowledge and best practices.
Qualifications
Basic Qualifications:
- U.S. Citizenship Required; Must have the ability to obtain / maintain an Secret security clearance.
- Bachelor's degree in Data Science, Statistics, Mathematics, or a related field with 8 years' experience or Master's degree in Data Science, Statistics, Mathematics, or a related field with 6 years' experience or HS Diploma/equivalent and 12 years of experience.
- Experience as a Data Scientist or in a similar role.
- Proven experience in analyzing telemetry data and applying data science methodologies to real-world problems.
- Proficiency in Python.
- Strong knowledge of machine learning algorithms and statistical methods.
- Experience with data engineering patterns and building data pipelines (e.g., ETL processes).
- Familiarity with cloud services (e.g., AWS, Azure) and big data technologies (e.g., Hadoop, Spark).
- Experience with relational SQL and No SQL databases (e.g., Postgre SQL, Dynamo DB).
- Comfortable working with machine learning libraries and frameworks (e.g., Pandas, Num Py, Scikit-Learn, Tensor Flow, Py Torch).
- Soft Skills:
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical thinking abilities.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
- High degree of initiative, self-motivation, and ability to motivate others.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of proprietary information
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in an IT environment or with operational data is a plus . Target Salary Range
$135,000 - $216,000. This represents the typical salary range for this position based on experience and other factors.
