Clinical Informaticist

As an integral part of the clinical care team, the Clinical Informaticists works collaboratively between IT and clinical operations, is a knowledgeable practitioner, consultant, educator, and evaluator striving to maintain and improve system services by mentoring clinical users to become better technology consumers.

The Clinical Informatics participates in the design and implementation of the Clinical Information System as it pertains to clinical practice.

  • Supports and maintains system upgrades, system implementations, and oversees regulatory submission requirements supporting overall business operations and
    allowing clinicians to provide high quality care in the most efficient manner possible utilizing technology.
  • Reports to the Director of Information systems, collaborates with Nursing, Quality, and senior leadership to develop, enhance, and support information technology as it relates to the electronic medical record and supporting applications
  • Primary responsibilites include but are not limited to:
  • Lead Clinical System Implementations, Testing, Training Strategy, and the overall support of clinical systems.
  • In collaboration with the Education Department, Facility Department Leaders, and Corporate Informatics develop and provide direct, hands-on education and
    support to staff in the use of technology in a manner which promotes patient safety and confidentiality
  • Consistently strive to improve knowledge and skills in the development of clinical systems and processes.
  • Active consulting member on hospital councils, Nursing/Ancillary and Medical Staff Committees, leading direction and recommendations of Clinical
    Informatics, MEC, Nursing, Infection control, and all others as needed that affect the Electronic Medical Record and Content.
  • Participate as part of the change control team (Clinical Automation Steering Team (CAST) to support organization strategic initiatives. Assist in coordination as directed by the Change Board Committee Chair as a dedicated consultant to guide high impact clinical application workflows and projects.
  • Perform regular analysis of department workflow and provide recommendations for the automation of manual processes. By directly interacting with department staff on a daily basis, perform ongoing assessment of whether technology is meeting the needs of the department by enhancing, not impeding workflow
  • Solicit and respond to user concerns about system functionality.
  • As a liaison to clinically focused committees, make recommendations for planning and development of clinical systems Assist with the development and revision of department policies and procedures to address changes brought about by the implementation of technology.
  • Identify potential champions for clinical technology, and actively mentor them as future technology leaders.
  • Manage and/or participate in system implementation projects per the Project Management Methodology utilized by the organization.
  • Collaborate within and outside of the department to build and/or oversee the build of system components (profiles, dictionaries, screens) that lend to an integrated system which supports the workflow of all users, in all departments which will use the technology
  • Train leadership in the use of audit tools and assist in the development of mechanisms to identify and address user adoption issues
  • Lead personalization sessions with end users on optimizing the use of the clinical information system
  • In conjunction with the clinical educators, assist in development of training tools and programs for upgrading the skills of the department staff
