Position Summary: The Lead Dispatcher, under general direction, supervises dispatchers, serves as the primary point of contact for a designated shift. Manage incoming communications, coordinate timely responses, and ensure efficient communication between relevant parties across New York University’s (NYU) global enterprise. Receive, evaluate, and prioritize all emergency and non-emergency calls for service, ensuring the appropriate response units are dispatched. Lead, advise, and train new and current personnel, coordinate shift coverage, and ensure compliance with all established operating procedures. Maintain the operational efficiency of various communication tools, oversee the implementation of upgrades and enhancements, and compile and present operational reports and statistics for the designated shift. High School Diploma or equivalent and
Preferred Education:
Bachelor's Degree or equivalent in security or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience. and APCO (Certified Association of Public Safety Communication Officials) Public Safety Telecommunication Certification. and Campus Safety Training Officer Certification
Required Experience:
2+ years of relevant experience with public safety dispatch, police dispatch, or security dispatch, including customer service and Computer-aided dispatch (CAD) system experience.
Preferred Experience:
3+ years experience in a public safety environment (i.e. police, fire, EMS, security, dispatch), and customer service.
Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
Proficient in emergency communications systems, including Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD), multiple two-way radio systems, alarm receivers, video monitoring systems, access control systems, emergency mass notification systems, and telecommunications systems. Strong professional and courteous customer service skills and organizational skills. Demonstrated ability to establish priorities in line with risk and urgency; manage multiple tasks or projects simultaneously; work in a fast-paced, potentially stressful environment and maintain composure under conditions that require immediate and accurate actions; exercise sound judgment in emergency situations, and make split-second decisions in accordance with University policy and procedures. Strong ability to collaborate and coordinate with key stakeholders across the university and communicate effectively with team members at all levels of the organization. Demonstrated sensitivity, understanding of team dynamics, and a commitment to addressing problems affecting the Communications Center's work/team environment. Ability to remain on duty until relief is available and work weekends and different shifts on a rotating basis required. The Communications Center is a 24/7/265 operation and requires regular attendance and a punctual employee presence.
Additional Information: In compliance with NYC's Pay Transparency Act, the hourly rate salary range for this position is USD $32.293 to USD $42.293. This pay range represents base pay only and excludes any additional items such as incentives, bonuses, clinical compensation, or other items.
