Summary or Purpose
Provides technical and administrative support to the Search and Rescue Coordinator; coordinates search and rescue efforts between the NSB Search and Rescue (SAR) Department and volunteer, state, and federal search and rescue organizations. Supervises and monitors administrative staff if required by the Search & Rescue Coordinator and acts as the Search & Rescue Coordinator in the absense of the Search & Rescue Coordinator.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Assists and Coordinates Search and Rescue operations as required.
Assists with the maintenance and operations of NSB village Volunteer Search and Rescue equipment.
Assists and coordinates the training activities for Search and Rescue Volunteers.
Maintains and prepares Search and Rescue reports and logs.
Assist volunteer organizations in processing documentation to proper authorities.
Manages the Personal Locator Beacon (PLB) program database.
Assists the Search and Rescue Coordinator on the monitoring and reviewing trends in search, rescue, and emergency service, and recommendations on operational and procedural improvements.
Represent the Borough in meetings with federal, state and local rescue emergency service organizations, other borough departments, and outside organizations and businesses as required.
Assists the Grants division in the application and administration of grant funding for the NSB Search and Rescue and volunteers.
Assists in monitoring grants.
Advises the Search & Rescue Coordinator and the director of Search & Rescue on search and rescue matters and concerns.
Assists in the preparation of and development of special projects and reports.
Travels to the NSB villages as required.
Preforms duties as Flight Crew member as required.
Preforms other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of NSB Search and Rescue Department policies and procedures, emergency services techniques and procedures and related safety and legal issues;
Knowledge of search and rescue principles, Alaska geography and topography, and procedures for the deployment of personnel and equipment emergency situations;
Knowledge of borough, state, and federal emergency protocol;
Knowledge of North Slope Borough grant application process;
Education, Experience, Certifications and Licenses Required
High school graduate or G.E.D./ or a combination of 12 years of education and related work experience;
One year of supervisory work experience.
Two years of volunteer search and rescue experience;
Valid Alaska driver's license that meets North Slope Borough insurance criteria;
Must be able to communicate in the Inupiaq language (testing required).
