WHAT YOU WILL BE DOINGThis position provides oversight of and is responsible for, the maintenance of agency aircraft used for the Department of Public Safety (DPS) and must possess knowledge of aircraft engines, parts, and systems, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance.. This is generally accomplished through oversight of third party vendor based maintenance contracts and must have knowledge of the principles, methods, or tools for developing, scheduling, coordinating, and managing projects and resources, including monitoring and inspecting costs, work, and contractor performance.. The work environment is friendly, team-oriented, and productive. Our Fairbanks-based Aircraft Section operates from the airports located within the Golden Heart City of Fairbanks often from Fairbanks International Airport or one of the nearby landing areas. This position may travel throughout Alaska providing aircraft and training support.WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR: It is required that Aircraft Maintenance Inspector have Airframe & Powerplant and Inspection Authorization (A&P/IA) certificates. Though not required, it is preferred that the applicant also hold a commercial or private pilot’s license. The Aircraft Maintenance Inspector must have experience working on both fixed-wing and rotary-wing aircraft. The ideal candidate will possess experience with piston and turbine engines (preferred PT6 and Saffran helicopter). It is the inspector’s responsibility to ensure the aircraft’s timely completion and airworthiness to the maximum extent possible with multiple vendors.Must have the ability to consistently schedule, inspect and evaluate repair of aircraft in a safe manner in adverse conditions and follow all the applicable Federal Aviation Administration Regulation, Advisory Circulars, Airworthiness Directives, the Department’s Operating Procedures Manual, the Aircraft Manufacturers Service Manual and Service Bulletins. Must satisfy maintenance inspector qualifications which meet or exceed experience following federal, state and current manufacturer recommended maintenance procedures.Diagnoses discrepancies reported by pilot staff to determine appropriate repairs for mechanical and avionics problems.The Department of Public Safety strives to preserve the peace, enforce the law, prevent and detect crime, and protect life and property. EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Possession of a current Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Inspector Authorization Certificate (IA).Special Requirements: Possession of a valid Alaska driver's license.Applicants must submit a copy of their IA Certificate at time of interview.Possession of an FAA commercial pilot license is highly desirable but not required.
