The role/Te mahi
This newly created leadership role is a real opportunity to make a difference. We are looking for an experienced HR professional to provide strategic leadership, expertise and advice to drive the Human Resources Division to confidently create and advance employment related policies, plans and practices to whakamana i Te Tiriti o Waitangi.
In line with Pae Tata 2023 and the Māori Strategic Framework to 2030, Ōtākou Whakaihu Waka is committed to becoming Te Tiriti-led, driving change across all areas, including growing and supporting our Māori workforce. This role collaborates closely with HR senior leadership, Māori leadership across the University, and key offices such as the Office of Māori Development and the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Māori), with strong support from the wider HR Division.
Your skills and experience/Kā pūkeka me kā wheako
We are looking for a leader in human resources or related discipline who will champion our values: Manaakitaka/Respect, Pono/Integrity, Māhirahira/Curiosity and Wharawhanaukataka/Community.
You will also have:
  • Experience with Māori affirming policy, practices, strategies and plans.
  • Experience in planning, developing, delivering and evaluating Te Tiriti o Waitangi strategies, frameworks and capability development programmes.
  • Understanding and respect of Kaupapa Māori and equity issues that affect kaimahi Māori in the workplace.
  • Experience growing Māori and/or other diverse workforces.
  • Ability to lead through transformational change.
Experience working in a large and diverse organisation working with wide range of stakeholders is key for this role. We would also love you to have good knowledge of Te Reo Māori and tikanga, as well as experience implementing these into wider organisational processes and practices. Language fluency is not essential.
Finding the right person for this role is very important to us. We know that kāore te kumara e kōrero ana mo tōna ake reka – the kumara does not speak of its own sweetness. This is permanent, full-time (37.5 hours per week) position based in Dunedin.
