Our client Tūwharetoa ki Kawerau Hauora are looking for a dedicated full-time Intensive Whānau Support Practitioner to join their team in Kawerau. Established in 1995, our client provides quality health, social and education services that improve the well-being of Iwi and the wider community who reside within the rohe of Tuwharetoa Ki Kawerau and Eastern Bay of Plenty.

He aha te tūnga | About the role
Managing approximately 15 - 20 caseloads at any one time, this role offers you the chance to play a pivotal role in supporting families during times of crisis, helping to shape brighter futures for those in need. Creating plans and equiping clients with strategies to mitigate further violence, allowing and encouraging them to learn behaviour changing skills, and access necessary support services to restore safety and embark on their healing duty are key duties of this role.

Key responsibilities of the role include:
  • Provide intensive support to families facing crisis situations.
  • Restore safety and wellbeing/mauri ora where family violence has occurred or is at risk of occurring
  • Work closely with families to develop tailored support plans.
  • Offer guidance, advocacy, and resources to empower families to overcome challenges
  • Support families and whānau to access additional and wraparound support services as needed
  • Build rapport and working collaboratively with families and whānau to develop robust safety strategies to support a reduction in the immediate risk of further violence
  • Collaborate with community organsations and agencies to ensure comprehensive support for families.
  • Identify and monitor any health and well-being issues, needs and prepare referrals to external agencies for additional support services
  • Complete reporting requirements, ensuring strict client confidentiality

Nga pūkenga me whai | The ideal candidate requirements:
  • Diploma in Social work, Psychology, Counselling, or a related field
  • Previous experience in facilitating programmes, particularly in the field of family violence prevention or related areas
  • A minimum of three years’ experience, in a similar role performing similar duties
  • Strong understanding of family violence dynamics and its impact on individuals and families/whānau
  • An in-depth understanding of how at-risk whanau/families function, and respect where those whanau/ families are
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse populations
  • Strong relationship and network management, able to develop working relationships with whānau, internal and external stakeholders
  • Experience working in a kaupapa Māori environment
  • Knowledge of TKKH and the Eastern Bay of Plenty Communities
  • Empathy, showing respect for clients and their whānau journey
  • Effective negotiating and advocacy skills
  • A commitment to safe work practices
  • Excellent computer literacy skills, with proficiency in all Microsoft Office functions
  • Knowledge of Tūwharetoa ki Kawerau tikanga and kawa
  • A good understanding of tikanga Māori, competency in Te Reo Māori is desirable
