Marine Industrial Design is looking for a Marine Design Engineer or Naval Architect to join the team based in Whangarei.

Are you an experienced Marine Design Engineer or Naval Architect seeking your next challenge? Join our innovative team in Whangarei, where you will provide cutting-edge engineering design services across diverse projects. Collaborate with industry-leading professionals and work with commercial clients and defence personnel. With a background in naval architecture, you will leverage your expertise in marine engineering while benefiting from a dynamic and rewarding work environment committed to quality, innovation, and client satisfaction.

We offer a competitive salary of $90k-$120k for a full-time (40hrs) position. You will provide technical design input, review and approve modelling and design outputs, and mentor less experienced staff. Leading projects, supporting Senior Engineers, and managing assigned projects to ensure timely and high-quality delivery are key aspects of this role. Building effective relationships with clients and identifying new business opportunities will contribute to business planning and growth strategies.

About you

You are a skilled Design Engineer or Naval Architect with a solid background in marine engineering, thriving in dynamic, project-driven environments. Your expertise in CAD software and proficiency in creating detailed design and production drawings make you an invaluable asset to our team. You excel at translating complex concepts into practical solutions and possess exceptional analytical and report-writing skills. Your strong interpersonal and communication abilities enable you to build and maintain effective client relationships.

Customer-focused and confident in your decision-making, you are committed to continuous improvement. Your experience in the marine industry, particularly in shipbuilding and repair, makes you a perfect fit for this role, especially if you have a background in naval architecture.

To be successful you will have

  • Degree or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering/Naval Architecture or associated technical discipline.
  • Minimum 3+ years’ experience in marine engineering design
  • Membership of an associated engineering body/council
  • Proficiency in CAD software packages, including 3D modelling.
  • Strong design and mechanical engineering knowledge.
  • Excellent analytical and report-writing abilities.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy in documentation and record-keeping.
  • Strong oral communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to lead and work effectively in a team.
