Primary objective
The Workshop Manager Southern is responsible to provide high level expert advice on the management, repair and maintenance of all NT
Police, Fire and Emergency Services (NTPFES) vehicles in the southern region of the NT. The position provides leadership and management
to the Alice Springs Mechanical Workshop including staff management, work scheduling, ordering of consumables and spare parts and
the ordering of goods and services from other companies and contract agencies.
Context statement
The work unit, NTPFES Fleet Management, manages, maintains, repairs, commissions, and de-commissions all vehicles and
marine assets owned by Police, Fire and Emergency Services. NTPFES Fleet Services procures, maintains, and disposes of
fleet assets allocated to NTPFES in the Northern Territory. These services are provided to stations across the Northern Territory with
offices in Darwin and Alice Springs and are critical in ensuring operational availability of frontline emergency service assets. The emphasis
of this position is on administration, maintenance, and management of a modern and diverse fleet of light vehicles. It is desirable the
applicant has a history of working within a large fleet environment.
Key duties and responsibilities
- Manage the scheduling of NTPFES vehicle asset maintenance ensuring maximum operational availability.
- Assist with the management of period contracts associated with the maintenance of the light vehicle fleet. Contracts include - supply
of oils and lubricants; panel beating and vehicle windscreens.
- Assist on recruiting selection panels when required.
- Maintain and monitor information within the agencies Vehicle Management System (VMS) ensuring the scope, history and cost of
maintenance is captured.
- Determine the extent and scope of repairs necessary and ensure that correct information is accurately recorded on job cards.
- Manage the scheduling of the fit-out of and de-commissioning of vehicle fleet assets.
- Maintain stock levels of repair parts within the light vehicle repair workshop store.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Certificate 3 (Trade) in light vehicle technology or equivalent.
2. Extensive knowledge of light vehicle mechanical and electrical systems with particular emphasis on fault diagnosis of complex engine
and chassis computer-controlled systems.
3. MVR Vehicle Inspectors license or the ability to gain the qualification on commencement.
4. Car license with manual transmission endorsement.
5. Demonstrated ability to work without supervision and manage small teams.
Desirable
1. Post trade qualifications in brand specific maintenance or related field.
2. Medium Rigid (MR) truck license and Forklift licence.
