Primary objective
The position will contribute to program improvement and investment decision making across the NT Police through the preparation
of advice and documents to support evidence-driven decision making. The position will lead in the design and conduct of research
and the evaluation of programs of strategic value to NT Police.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Provide timely strategic advice and recommendations to enable NT Police to build its evidence base, monitor its performance,
recognise its achievements, and identify trends and risks that require remedial action and address emerging priorities.
2. Lead research, analysis and evaluation to inform improvements to a wide range of program investments delivered by NT Police
and in partnership with providers.
3. Using a collaborative and coordinated approach, work with program areas, other Departments and key partners to develop
evaluation plans, program logics, data matrices.
4. Prepare and present complex reports and briefings to senior management, in addition to preparing Ministerials, Cabinet
documents for government and plain language information for diverse audiences.
5. Contribute to a work culture of continuous quality improvement, innovation, and strategic and critical thinking with the ability
to challenge, be curious and discover, and report on emerging trends.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Extensive experience in research, evaluation and reporting to inform strategic policy and planning, program design and the
provision of evidence-based advice to executive management.
2. Established project and time management skills with the ability to be proactive, work independently, exercise discretion,
manage competing priorities, and deliver quality, accurate products in tight timeframes.
3. Demonstrated extensive knowledge of contemporary policy, political and legislative issues, trends and developments relating
to the programs and services of NT Police.
4. High level interpersonal skills, and a proven ability to consult, collaborate, influence and negotiate with stakeholders to achieve
objectives and source timely, relevant information.
5. Advanced written and verbal communication skills, including presenting complex analyses and ideas in plain English and
experience in producing concise briefings (e.g. Ministerial and Executive briefs, reports, information packs, and visual
presentations) supported by data and for different audiences.
6. Demonstrated ability work productively in a team and to lead and mentor staff if required.
7. Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain productive working relationships with people at all levels and interact
effectively with people of diverse cultures.
Desirable
1. Postgraduate qualification in a relevant discipline.
