Primary objective
This position provides technical, operational and administrative support for the implementation of effective wildlife management
programs.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Implement approved wildlife management programs, including but not limited to saltwater crocodiles.
- Manage requests for assistance from the community with respect to animals that pose a risk to public safety. This will require
providing advice and guidance to callers and capturing the animal (including venomous and non-venomous snakes and flying foxes)
as appropriate.
- Implement law enforcement and compliance activities with regard to the wildlife permit system and wildlife offences under the
Territory Parks and Wildlife Conservation Act 1976.
- Maintain electronic information, including databases and records systems for collating, processing and retrieving information on
enforcement and compliance activities and wildlife management.
- Provide general advice to the community on wildlife management issues, legislation and policies and permits.
Selection criteria
Essential
- A relevant qualification awarded by an Australian institution, or equivalent; or significant relevant experience in a field of technical
work closely related to the duties of the vacancy.
- Knowledge of wildlife management techniques, in relation to saltwater crocodiles or the ability to acquire this knowledge.
- Demonstrated knowledge undertaking enforcement and regulatory activities and administering legislation to ensure compliance, in
regards to wildlife management issues or the ability to acquire this knowledge.
- Demonstrated experience working and communicating with members of the community and an ability to interact effectively with
people of diverse cultures.
- A sound ability to identify Northern Territory wildlife or proven capability to acquire the required knowledge.
- High level of initiative, motivation and organisational skills to operate with minimal supervision in a team environment, meet
deadlines, adapt to changing priorities and contribute to in-house training.
- Ability to prepare documents to a high standard including compliance and enforcement documents, standard operating procedures,
reports and guidelines.
- Current Senior First Aid Certificate, NT Drivers Licence, Coxswains certificate, S4 chemical handling certification and an NT
Employees firearms licence, or the ability to obtain.
Desirable
- Certificate IV in Government Investigations or the ability to obtain.
