Primary objective
Provide expert advice and direction to water resource management programs, projects, and planning to ensure to optimise
outcomes to deliver the Northern Territory Government, the Department and the Divisions strategic objectives and
priorities.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Lead critical evidence-based advice on water resource management through the development, declaration,
implementation, and review water allocation plans and management tools through the legislation and policy.
2. Develop and manage water management policies, procedures and processes.
3. Deliver the division’s engagement and science communication programs to build productive stakeholder relationships
and enhance community awareness of the Territory’s water resource management.
4. Deliver and support strategic projects, science programs and water management activities that promote collaboration,
improve water resource understanding and increase organisational efficiency.
5. Proactively work across multi-disciplinary teams to support the implementation of water management activities.
6. Provide leadership and support to the planning team and Director of water management.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Degree in natural resource management, or similar relevant Tertiary qualification relevant to the key duties and
responsibilities.
2. Extensive experience in the management and delivery of natural resources planning processes, particularly knowledge
of National Water Initiative and industry best practice principles related to water planning or equivalent.
3. Strong project management skills with the proven ability to manage multiple projects within budget and timeframes
independently and deliver to statutory timelines.
4. Ability to confidently select applicable scientific data to communicate to a diverse range of audiences and stakeholders.
5. Demonstrated effective oral and written communication skills in a complex and politically sensitive environment.
6. Experience in leading a team and managing individual and team performance.
7. Capacity to work outside of normal work hours, including regional and remote travel, and holding a drivers licence.
Desirable
1. Understanding and appreciation of the environmental, social and economic policies and priorities of the Northern
Territory.
