Primary objective
The Taxation Analyst provides more complex advice, services and reporting to ensure that the responsibilities of Taxation
Services are discharged efficiently and effectively. Research, establish and implement various internal taxation projects.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Prepare, reconcile, and analyse taxation transactions for Fringe Benefits Tax (FBT), Business Activity Statements (BAS),
Payroll Tax, Fuel Tax Credits, Superannuation and Withholding Tax for client Agencies and Government Business
Divisions (GBDs).
2. Assist the Tax Managers to finalise and lodge tax returns and associated payments, refunds and reporting to
Agencies/GBDs and ensure that monthly, quarterly, and annual tax reports are prepared on time.
3. Provide comprehensive advice and directions to management, clients and the Taxation unit on specific technical
taxation issues and undertake a range of ad-hoc projects.
4. Assist to develop new or improve existing, administrative practices to ensure that the Territory’s compliance obligations
with taxation legislation are met.
5. Prepare and maintain procedures, present at tax forums, and conduct training to improve technical skill levels of staff.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Demonstrated ability in the analysis of complex financial transactions and preparation of taxation returns using a range
of financial systems including the use of complex Excel formulas and spreadsheets.
2. Sound ability in reviewing complex documents and identifying and resolving taxation issues.
3. Demonstrated ability in interpreting legislation and assisting in development and implementation of policies and
procedures across complex organisational structures and delivering appropriate training for staff and clients.
4. Proven well-developed communication skills including building strong partnerships with a range of stakeholders.
5. Sound organisational skills with the ability to prioritise work activities with minimal supervision, work under pressure
and meet deadlines with accuracy.
6. Demonstrated work ethic and attitude, which emulates DCDD values of being professional, accountable, honest,
respectful, and innovative.
Desirable
1. Tertiary qualifications in a Finance related field.
