Research Associate - Project “Disability Matters” (Lived Experience – Disability)

Job no: 527611
Work type: full time
Location: Sydney, NSW
Categories: Post Doctoral Research Associate
  • Employment Type: Full Time
  • Duration: Fixed Term until November 2025
  • Remuneration: From $88,290 to $117,718+ 17% superannuation + leave loading
  • Location: Kensington UNSW Campus
A new exciting role is available as part of the Disability Matters project for someone who wants to make a difference to disabled people and to build their career in research. This role is open to people with disability only.
About the role
The Research Associate is a new role, sitting within the UNSW Disability Innovation Institute. The role is funded through the award of a major grant from the Wellcome Trust (UK) to Professor Jackie Leach Scully as part of an international project, Disability Matters.
The successful candidate will work with and report to Professor Jackie Leach Scully, Professor of Bioethics and Director of the Disability Innovation Institute at UNSW. Other partners in the project are located in the United Kingdom, Singapore, India and Canada. Disability Matters aims to challenge the ‘absent presence’ of disability in health and science research. At UNSW, the work will focus on appropriate research methodologies to represent people with disability and their health priorities. While the project is interdisciplinary and focuses on how science and health research disability, the approach taken is likely to be qualitative.

  • Write and plan for ethical approval of all research work
  • Organise and carry out Critical Interdisciplinary Literature Review of research methods for disability and health
  • Create and run Online Methodology Workshops with disabled researchers to develop smart research practices
  • Develop a Best Practice Portal and Online Handbook on co-producing health research

  • Collaborate closely with the international research team and experts.
  • Manage and analyse qualitative data
  • In collaboration with international project partners, handle project communications, including managing the Disability Matters website and social media accounts, and organise meetings, workshops, and research gatherings.
