Primary objective
The Policy Officer Road Safety is responsible for undertaking road safety related policy and project development and
implementation to deliver road safety outcomes and undertaking other transport related projects as required across all
transport modes and issues.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Analyse, research and develop appropriate legislative proposals and complex reports, policy, and business cases in
relation to road safety and other transport related issues and reforms.
2. Manage a number of road safety reform projects and liaise with appropriate stakeholders and jurisdictions in the
formulation of road safety and transport policy, including establishing and supporting the Northern Territory position on
reform issues at the national level.
3. Prepare Ministerial correspondence, Cabinet Submissions, papers, reports, and briefings as required.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Sound analytical and research skills including the ability to manage complex projects and experience in undertaking data
and information analysis and developing reports, policies, and business cases.
2. An understanding of the relevant political, social, and organisational environment and ability to provide advice and make
recommendations on appropriate strategies in consultation with others.
3. Proven organisational skills including an ability to manage time, meet deadlines, and show adaptability and flexibility in
an environment of continuous change.
4. Ability to communicate effectively including facilitating discussions and consulting with stakeholders, preparing written
briefings, reports, and a variety of detailed correspondence.
5. Ability to work effectively as a part of a small team.
6. An ability to interact effectively with people of diverse cultures.
7. An understanding of Work Health and Safety matters as they apply to a workplace or the ability to acquire knowledge
within a short period.
Desirable
1. Broad understanding of road safety and transport issues and reforms at the Northern Territory and national level .
2. Relevant tertiary qualifications.
