Applications are invited from suitably qualified medical practitioners for the above position(s) in the Western Sydney Local Health District (WSLHD). This position will be located at Department of General Medicine in Auburn Hospital.
Auburn Hospital is an acute and subacute care facility in the Western Sydney Local Health District (WSLHD). It has a mixed (adult and children) Emergency Department with over 30,000 presentations per annum. Westmead Hospital is the principal referral facility with a comprehensive range of networked services and training programs. The Hospital is currently accredited for specialist anaesthesia, obstetrics, emergency medicine, general surgery, and prevocational training. Whilst the facility is currently not accredited for advanced physician training, there is a commitment to achieve this status over the next three years.
The position provides clinical leadership in best practice care to patients, and a workforce culture that promotes quality, safety, and excellence. You will possess excellent team-work and professional skills to lead and contribute to the development of programs.
Specialist-level clinical duties include:
Provide immediate and early specialist management of adult patients who present to the emergency department and are admitted under the general medicine department to both hospital inpatient and community based ambulatory services.
Provide advice in consultation on treatment for patients admitted to other departments.
Regular participation in on-call roster for General Medicine.
Provision of face-to-face and telehealth outpatient services.
Participation in multidisciplinary team meetings and family conferences.
Engage fully and proactively in clinical governance activities including quality improvement, risk management and patient safety activities such as clinical audits, critical incidents reporting and morbidity and mortality meetings.
Provide clinical leadership to support the development and implementation of new models of care
Support the Department in meeting Key Performance Indicators and Mandatory Reporting requirement as determined by the Local Health District and Ministry of Health.
Role model a mutually respectful environment with appropriate and effective conduct to promote a culture and supporting practices reflecting the organisational values in all interactions with patients/clients/employees.
Applicants must have Australian Fellowship/Specialist Registration
Appointees may be eligible for credentialing and privileging across all other facilities in the Western Sydney Local Health District.
Conditions of appointment are in accordance with the Staff Specialists (State) Award
Selection Criteria
Possess or be eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia, and Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians or equivalent as provided for in the Staff Specialists (State) Award.
Advanced Training in General and Acute Care Medicine and/or Geriatric Medicine with experience and recency of practice in General Medicine demonstrated through successful clinical practice in an environment appropriate commensurate with the requirements of the position and role delineation of the Hospital.
Demonstrated clinical leadership experience in advancing and delivering clinical service innovation.
Demonstrated competency in utilising digital technologies for safe and quality healthcare delivery.
Demonstrated skills and attitudes appropriate for practice as a Senior Medical /Dental Practitioner including:
o Proven ability to work effectively and harmoniously with medical and other health services colleagues as part of a multi-disciplinary health care team o Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with patients and colleagues o Excellent organisational, supervision and collaboration skills with demonstrated ability to build effective relationships. o Proven commitment to ongoing personal education and growth including keeping up to date with discipline knowledge and developments. o Experience and involvement in quality assurance activities and translation of research into practice to improve patient safety and quality
