Operations Manager (NT & QLD)

About the role
Coffey Testing is currently seeking an experienced and driven Operations Manager to support the General Manager - NT/QLD to develop and deliver on a structured business plan to achieve agreed growth and commercial performance objectives within the Northern Territory and Queensland region. This role will be responsible for leading safe work practices for our people, building high performing teams and ensuring our clients experience value through the delivery of smart solutions and well executed projects. The role actively collaborates with the regional management team to identify and secure work, build market profile, and increase revenue.
This is a full-time position based in any of our locations in our Northern Territory and Queensland regions (Darwin NT, Cairns QLD, Rockhampton QLD, Caboolture QLD) and regular travel around our NT/QLD laboratories is required.
About the role
Our NT/QLD Region has a large capability and capacity across concrete, soils and aggregates, which makes this position both challenging and rewarding.
Key responsibilities include:
  • Drive technical and delivery standards of excellence.
  • Support project delivery as required, take responsibility for interpreting, organising and executing large scale and complex projects within timeline and budget.
  • Ensure client satisfaction levels: review, evaluate and monitor client satisfaction on project performance, and oversee remedial actions if required.
  • Contribute to the development of winning proposals: ensure correct translation of client engagement, deliver presentations to clients, and progress opportunities to contract execution.
  • Work with the regional laboratories to ensure testing is completed within regulatory bodies, specifications and standards.
  • Work with the regional management team and technical leads to assess the market and develop/improve capability and service offering.
  • Support the management of project pricing, resource planning, mobilisation and utilisation to meet performance objectives.
  • Work with the Regional General Manager to review, negotiate and manage commercial contracts on projects.
  • Minimise project overruns and write offs.
  • Effectively manage the assets of the region.
  • Support a high performing team environment.
  • Support compliance, quality management and continuous improvement.
  • Lead a safety culture and promote safe work practices.

About you
To be successful you will have:
  • 10+ years experience in field and laboratory constructions materials testing to relevant Australian standards.
  • Business development and client engagement experience.
  • Established network of industry contacts and credible marketing/industry knowledge within the region.
  • NATA Signatory with a high level of competence and understanding of AS and TMR standards and knowledge of ISO/IEC 17025 requirements.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • An unwavering commitment to quality assurance and workplace safety.
  • Excellent time management, organisation, and prioritisation skills with an ability to manage multiple tasks or deadlines.
  • Has the ability to manage multiple tasks or deadlines.
  • Has the abilility to work autonomously and as part of a team to achieve results, displaying a high level of self-motivation.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and other required systems (LIMS).
  • Can work effectively under pressure, prioritising work to meet client demands.
  • Diploma in Laboratory Techniques is advantageous.
