Primary objective
Provide high level professional advice and information to the Department, the Development Consent Authority (DCA),
Minister for Lands, Planning and Environment, relevant Government Departments and agencies and the public on planning
and development issues in the urban areas of the Top End. Provide high level leadership and management to the Urban
Planning Team.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Provide high level professional advice and information to the Department, the Development Consent Authority (DCA),
Minister for Lands, Planning and Environment, relevant Government Departments and agencies and the public on
planning and development issues in the urban areas of the Top End.
2. Provide a high degree of leadership and utilise contemporary management skills to provide advice and support to enable
staff to build effective team relationships, achieve multi-skilling and to manage change effectively.
3. Establish appropriate service level strategies and develop imaginative and innovative approaches to service delivery and
ensure the team has a strong customer focus.
4. Analyse and continuously review current systems and procedures for the efficient processing of applications in
accordance with the NT Planning Act and NT Planning Scheme.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. A degree or diploma related to Land Use Planning from an Australian tertiary institution, or equivalent; or admission, or
eligibility for admission, to full membership of the Planning Institute of Australia.
2. Ability to provide high level professional advice to government, industry and the public on land planning and development
processes and requirements.
3. High level oral and written communication skills with demonstrated ability to effectively negotiate, mediate and
collaborate with various authorities, other agencies, local communities, developers, industry, professionals and the
general public.
4. High level contemporary leadership and management skills including business planning, human resource management,
human resource development, budgeting and management of output performance.
5. Sound professional knowledge of land planning practices and issues, particularly as they relate to the NT situation.
6. Current Northern Territory Drivers Licence or ability to obtain.
Desirable
1. Sound knowledge of the Northern Territory planning procedures, systems and Departmental practices is desirable.
