Primary objective
Provide a high level of coordination, leadership, and advice, while managing a team of administration and technical staff on the
development and delivery of Capital Works, Minor New Works and Repairs and Maintenance civil projects for the Barkly Region, ensuring
projects are delivered as defined by clients.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Lead and manage the design, planning and delivery of civil works programs and projects in the Barkly Region. This requires travelling
to project sites and to stakeholder meetings, which are at times in remote locations.
2. Lead a small team to project manage assigned Repairs and Maintenance, Minor New Works, and Capital Works projects to deliver
civil asset infrastructure in the region to a high standard.
3. Provide high level professional and specialised advice on the management of civil assets and projects throughout the Barkly Region,
including status reporting, risk management, resourcing, needs analysis, concept design, estimates and stakeholder feedback.
4. Provide oversight of the Civil team to undertake asset inspections, prepare project proposals, technical reports, and estimate of costs;
contract documentation, procurement, and contract administration/supervision to ensure that workmanship/materials comply with
current standards, codes and guidelines and all relevant clearances are obtained.
5. Undertake the role of Senior Project Manager and Superintendent’s Representative in the administration of contracts to ensure
departmental policies, procedures and Northern Territory Government legislation and construction standards are maintained.
6. Provide high level expert advice and liaise with client agencies at the senior level on the development of the client’s functional brief
for major projects. Clarify needs, scope, funding, and other special requirements.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. High level knowledge and experience working in the road and civil industry; construction and maintenance techniques and practices,
including roads, land servicing and hydraulics, together with a sound knowledge of program and project management and government
procurement processes.
2. Demonstrated experience with proven skills in project management, procurement, and contract management.
3. High level ability to lead, manage and advise multi-disciplined resource teams on technical and para-professional matters.
4. High level oral and written communication skills including the ability to effectively consult and collaborate and build strong
professional working relationships with colleagues, external clients, the community, and industry representatives.
5. High level working knowledge of the requirements of the relevant legislation as applied in the NT or similar jurisdictions as well as a
range of relevant Australian Standards, Codes of Practice, and associated Guidelines.
6. Current Northern Territory Driver’s Licence.

1. A relevant qualification awarded by an Australian institution, or equivalent (i.e. Engineering);
