About us

Anyinginyi Health Aboriginal Corporation
(Anyinginyi Health) is a multi-disciplinary organisation which provides primary health care services to the Aboriginal people of Tennant Creek and the surrounding Barkly region, dedicated to ‘Closing the Gap’ in Aboriginal health within remote Australia.

Anyinginyi Health consists of four different sections (Health Services, Business Services, Public Health Section and Piliyintinji-Ki Stronger Families) which allow them to have a holistic approach to health ensuring that clients' physical and emotional health and wellbeing is given the utmost priority.

Anyinginyi Health's
mission is to be a provider of high quality holistic primary health care services featuring prevention and treatment in the Barkly region in a culturally responsive way.

About the Tennant Creek Region

Year-round blue skies, stunning landscapes and vibrant, diverse and warm communities - that's life in the Northern Territory! Only a short flight from most Australian cities, Tennant Creek is not just a must-see destination renowned for its individual identity and rich cultural heritage but is a remarkable community to set up home in!

As a small regional centre, Tennant Creek does not have the facilities one would find in larger country towns like Katherine or Alice Springs however it does provide for all the basics that most people require. There is a large IGA store, Post Office, clothing and furniture stores, Pharmacy, Newsagent, ANZ bank, restaurants and coffee shops and four hotels/motels. It also has sporting facilities (e.g., swimming pool, basketball courts, tennis court, football ground, car racing track), and several tourists attractions within easy reach Like our Beautiful Lake Mary Ann!

About the Role

Anyinginyi Health
has an exciting opportunity for a full time Health Promotions Officer to join their Kalpa Purru Wirranjarlki – Public Health Section, here in Tennant Creek. This role is offered on a Full-Time basis.

The Health Promotions Officer will plan, implement, and evaluate regional and local health promotion activities and help to embed good population health promotion practice and health education into Barkly Region. Health promotion is the process of enabling people to increase control, and to improve, their well-being. To reach a state of complete physical, mental, cultural and social well-being, an individual or group must be able to identify and to satisfy needs, and to change or cope with the environment. Health is, therefore, seen as a resource for everyday life, not the objective of living. Health is a positive concept emphasizing social and personal resources, as well as physical capacities. Therefore, health promotion is not just the responsibility of the health sector, but communities, families, and individuals also.

More specifically, some of your duties will include (but will not be limited to):

Duties
  • Ability to demonstrate skills transfer to Aboriginal staff employed in the same work area as the contracted employee.
  • Undertake research into health issues in Tennant Creek and the Barkly region, develop and implement culturally appropriate health education events, programs and resources.
  • Gather statistical information and undertake relevant research on health issues in Tennant Creek and the Barkly region.
  • Liaise with relevant community groups within the Barkly Region as well as across Anyinginyi Health sections.
  • A commitment to engage with Continuous Quality Activities within the section of Anyinginyi Health that you are employed in, on a personal and team level.
  • Acknowledge and respect Aboriginal values, beliefs, customs, language and traditional health practices.
  • Other duties as directed.
About you

To be successful in this position, you will need to possess exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with demonstrated experience in engaging with clients and writing documentation and reports.

You need to possess the following:

  • Qualifications and/or experience in a health-related discipline or Aboriginal Community Controlled sector.
  • At least one year of experience in developing and coordinating health promotion activities/events.
  • Knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander culture and an understanding of the diverse circumstances and issues affecting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders, particularly in the Barkly Region.
  • Demonstrated ability to be self-motivated and work with minimal supervision.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills and ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team including clinicians, health workers and Aboriginal health practitioners.
  • Understanding of and commitment to client confidentiality.
  • Community engagement skills
  • Be in possession of or have the ability to apply for an Ochre Card (Working with Children).
  • Current NT Drivers License.
  • Completed 3 COVID19 vaccinations.

    Desirable:

  • Experience working in the Barkly Region in an Aboriginal health setting.
Please see Position Description for more details.

If you meet the above criteria and you’re interested in contributing to an organisation where you can really make a difference in our local community, we want to hear from you!
