Primary objective
The Farm Manager is responsible for management of staff and operations at the Douglas Daly Research Farm, providing a
high level of agricultural technical expertise.
Context statement
The Douglas Daly Research Farm provides facilities to conduct agricultural research and extension; this position ensures the
farm is research ready and animal welfare and Work Health and Safety requirements are met.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Manage the safe and efficient operation of the Douglas Daly Research Farm.
2. Coordinate all Farm activities and operations required for research projects carried out on the Research Station.
3. Direct and supervise staff in farm operations and ensure the application of safe and appropriate work and animal welfare
practices.
4. Perform farm operations required for cropping and irrigated production, pastures, and cattle.
5. Responsible for budget management as well as overseeing maintenance of technical and administrative records.
6. In conjunction with research and other regional staff, plan and implement the long-term development of resources and
facilities of the Farm.
7. Assist with extension and producer training activities such as Field Days, Open Days, and field demonstrations.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. An appropriate Degree, Diploma or equivalent in agriculture or related field from a recognised institution and/or
extensive relevant experience.
2. Proven ability and expertise in cattle station and mixed farming management operations.
3. Sound knowledge of the cattle industry, in particular the northern beef industry.
4. Technical expertise in farm management practices including land preparation, cropping, machinery operation and
maintenance, staff training and financial management.
5. Demonstrated Workplace Health and Safety leadership and proven ability to manage workplace risks and promote a
safety culture.
6. Well-developed interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate with the public, producers, and professional and
technical research staff.
7. Drive a 4WD vehicle.
Desirable
1. Hold a current HR NT drivers’ licence.
2. Hold a current First Aid Certificate or have the ability to obtain and maintain this qualification.
3. Hold a Chem Cert or Smar Train Certificate or have the ability to obtain and maintain this qualification.
