The Attorney-General’s Department (AGD) employs approximately 1,800 staff to provide a range of key legal, regulatory and other services to South Australians. Consumer and Business Services (CBS), a division of the AGD, works with businesses to achieve compliance, and promotes a fair, secure and balanced marketplace where consumers are protected and know their rights.
Reporting to the Chief Executive of AGD, and working closely with the Minister for Consumer and Business Affairs, the Commissioner for Consumer and Business Services has responsibility for the overall management of the CBS business unit of c.230 staff. The Commissioner exercises legislative powers and responsibilities attached to several statutory offices, including; Commissioner for Consumer Affairs, Liquor and Gambling Commissioner, Commissioner for Prices and Commissioner for Corporate Affairs. The Commissioner will work collaboratively with other agencies to effectively regulate the sale and supply of illicit tobacco and vapes in this State.
The Commissioner is responsible for a diverse and sensitive range of services including licensing, compliance and enforcement, regulatory services, advice and conciliation, and business services and registrations.
The Commissioner will have a broad skillset across strategy, operations and regulation, with demonstrated experience in customer service delivery and improvement within large and complex organisations (including government). You will need credible experience in effectively leading, motivating and supporting diverse teams, while encouraging collaboration and fostering a constructive culture. Operating in a demanding environment with multiple internal and external stakeholders, the Commissioner must have a proven track record of leading and managing significant business and organisational change in a dynamic, fast-changing context and with a high level of judgement and autonomy. The Commissioner must operate in a complex and often sensitive environment, with high levels of operational and political risk. A thorough understanding of regulatory frameworks and ability to operate within a regulatory and legislative environment is critical.
