Your Opportunity
Stuart Lodge, located in Alice Springs, offers vital transitional accommodation for individuals and families facing or at risk of homelessness. With 33 rooms and up to 74 beds, the facility also supports referrals from the Patient Assisted Travel Scheme.
As a Cleaner at Stuart Lodge, you will play a crucial role in ensuring that the facility maintains high standards of cleanliness, hygiene, and basic maintenance. Your work will directly contribute to the wellbeing of residents, ensuring a safe and comfortable environment for those facing significant life challenges.
This role is essential in creating a welcoming and hygienic space, meeting both internal and external health and safety standards. By delivering excellent cleaning services, you will help support individuals and families who are experiencing difficult circumstances, providing them with a clean and dignified place to stay during their time of need.
This is a casual position, and the roster is Monday to Sunday 7am to 3pm. You will need to have flexibility and availability to work sometimes on short notice.
Your Key Responsibilities
- Perform a variety of cleaning duties such as vacuuming, mopping, sweeping, rubbish removal, and restocking of supplies. Ensure all areas meet cleanliness and hygiene standards to reduce workplace health and safety risks.
- Liaise with the administration office to determine room vacancies, manage the changing, washing, and stock control of bed linen and bathroom towels, and ensure timely preparation of rooms.
- Create and adhere to a structured cleaning schedule, recording the completion of tasks daily. Respond promptly to urgent cleaning requests to mitigate safety hazards.
- Follow procedures for the safe use and storage of cleaning chemicals and materials. Ensure the proper disposal of sharps and hazardous items in compliance with safety protocols.
- Identify, report, and document accidents, incidents, or safety hazards to the manager. Ensure the confidentiality and rights of residents are protected at all times during cleaning activities.
- Complete basic administrative tasks such as documenting cleaning activities and participating in team meetings. Create positive professional relationships with team members, residents, and external stakeholders to support the overall service delivery.
Requirements for Success
With a background in commercial cleaning, you will be confident in your efficient work process and maintaining a safe working environment. Other requirements include:
- Demonstrated ability to perform cleaning duties and operate cleaning equipment, including the use of step ladders, in a safe and efficient manner, particularly in a hygiene-controlled environment.
- Strong understanding of hazardous chemicals, infection control guidelines, cleaning protocols, and Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) standards, ensuring compliance and maintaining a safe environment.
- Capable with manual handling, with the ability to lift and carry up to 15 kg regularly, and the stamina to perform cleaning tasks across the facility.
- Experience working with people who have complex needs, including those experiencing homelessness, and knowledge of Aboriginal cultural systems and protocols.
- Ability to listen, comprehend, and follow instructions, along with clear and effective communication with colleagues, residents, and external stakeholders.
- Excellent time management skills with the ability to prioritize tasks effectively. Willingness to work flexible hours, including weekends and public holidays.
- Full driver licence with no restrictions is preferred.
Before starting work with us, you will need to undertake a national police history check, qualifications, and referee checks, and have a clearance to work with children/vulnerable people.
