Hello.
North Alabama Veterinary Orthopedics is seeking motivated and talented assistants/ technicians. NAVO is a traveling veterinary orthopedic surgical service based in Huntsville and serving clinics within approximately a 1 hour driving radius.
As an assistant/ technician I would be reaching out to you to determine your availability days/ weeks before surgery would take place. Generally, elective surgery is planned weeks in advance. More urgent surgeries will give less notice. This is not currently a full-time position. Preference is given to applicants who already perform veterinary assistant/ technician work elsewhere.
Responsibilities
Assist with the performance of orthopedic surgical procedures throughout the area. When a case arises, I would contact the assistant/ technician and we will go to the clinic and perform the procedure. Afterwards, we will recover the patient, clean up the OR and then leave the clinic.
Responsibilities include but not limited to :
Safe restraint of patients
Acquire radiographs of patients
Clip and clean surgical field prior to surgery
Place intravenous catheter in patients large and small
Intubate patients large and small
Safely anesthetize and maintain patients under surgical anesthesia
Recover patients post surgery
Clean surgical suite/ assist with cleaning of instruments/ setup and take-down of equipment
Expectations :
Consistently on time
Has a good attitude
Excellent technical skills
Assistants/ technicians are payed on a per-job basis, not an hourly rate. This rate is significantly more competitive than most full-time jobs hourly rates performing the same tasks.
Typical hours- 8 AM to 12-1 PM on single surgery days. If multiple procedures planned, obviously later.
This is an excellent opportunity for any talented/ motivated individual to earn a nice little bonus on top of your veterinary job elsewhere doing a few hours of work per week. Additionally, this is an excellent networking opportunity as we travel to different clinics and interact with many different doctors and staff at these locations. It is likely that more permanent positions will be available in the future and are reserved for those who are committed to doing excellent work.
