The College of Veterinary Medicine is seeking a part-time Courier to provide transportation of laboratory specimens from regional veterinary clinics to the College of Veterinary Medicine's Diagnostic Laboratory Service using a company vehicle. The Courier also delivers medical records and pharmacy prescriptions to the veterinary clinics and maintains daily records. This position must follow safety and OSHA requirements in the collection, handling, and storage of specimens and must provide exceptional customer service to clients.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provides courier service to veterinary clinics within a 50-mile radius by driving to clinics, collecting, properly storing, and delivering diagnostic specimens to the CVM diagnostic laboratory service in a timely and safe manner. Follows safety and OSHA requirements. Delivers medical records (ex. x-rays), laboratory supplies, and pharmacy prescriptions to referring veterinarians.
- Prepares and places storage containers in the UT vehicle for cold and ambient specimen collections. Places courier service logs in vehicle for proper documentation of specimen collections during clinic visits.
- Communicates with clients in a courteous and professional manner and directs customers with questions, concerns, and/or issues to the courier service Director.
- Documents daily service requests and specimen collections such as name of clinic and provider initials, date/time of collection, number and types of specimens, and time of delivery to CVM.
- Ensures customer initials are obtained at the time of sample collection for collection verification and ensures CVM lab personnel initials are obtained, confirming delivered specimens match what was collected at the customer site.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Needed:
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent customer service skills.
- Ability to safely operate a company vehicle, follow GPS applications, and follow traffic laws and regulations.
- Ability to travel approximately 5-6 hours each day. Ability to occasionally lift up to 25 pounds.
- Ability to safely handle packages and maintain specimens.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent with a valid driver’s license and clear driving record. Previous experience with transportation of laboratory specimens is preferred.
Schedule:
- 12-18 hours per week, Monday-Friday
