Job Description
General Description:
This position maintains a quality, comfortable, and safe environment for students, faculty and staff by utilizing knowledge and experience as a master mechanic qualified in all trades, providing timely response in support of the college mission; provide administration of contracts that are in force at the campus, ensuring contractors comply with Federal, State, and College regulations and procedures through supervision, inspection and evaluation of contractors. If needed, campus may vary.
Duties and Tasks:
This position maintains a quality, comfortable, and safe environment for students, faculty and staff by utilizing knowledge and experience as a master mechanic qualified in all trades, providing timely response in support of the college mission; provide administration of contracts that are in force at the campus, ensuring contractors comply with Federal, State, and College regulations and procedures through supervision, inspection and evaluation of contractors. If needed, campus may vary.
Duties and Tasks:
- Perform a variety of maintenance projects and preventative maintenance tasks including plumbing, electrical, mechanical and carpentry.
- Specific tasks may include the installation, repair, and maintenance of multiple building systems.
- Assist other trades, perform safety checks, emergency response, maintain and order supplies, as well as perform other duties as assigned.
- Campus assignment may be changed short term or long term based on business needs.
Special Assignments
May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.
KSA's/Required Qualifications
KSAs:
Required Qualifications:
- Understand how to use a variety of hand tools and power tools properly and safely.
- Basic understanding of building systems.
- Ability to function in close quarters, or cramped environment
- Ability to read technical documents, drawings, and blueprints.
- Basic computer skills including Microsoft office suite.
- Detail oriented.
- Possesses good communication skills.
Required Qualifications:
- Prior Trades Experience.
- Experience with maintenance projects and preventative maintenance of building system.
- Previous work experience with computerized maintenance management system (CMMS).
- Valid Virginia driver’s license and insurable driving record.
Additional Considerations
Additional Qualifications:
- A journeyman license in any maintenance trade.
- Experience working in a commercial and/or education building setting.
