STUDENT COUNCIL FACILITATOR
JOB DESCRIPTION: Student Council Facilitator LOCATION: District Wide
RANGE: (7) $5,904.00
TERM: School Year (Potentially Prorated)
REPORTS TO: Superintendent’s Office
OVERVIEW OF THE POSITION
The District-Wide Student Council Facilitator plays a pivotal role in fostering student leadership, voice, and
engagement across the district. This year-round position involves collaborating with the Superintendent’s office,
school board, and local youth leadership initiatives to empower students in decision-making processes and develop
their leadership skills. The facilitator will lead the formation and management of a District-Wide Student Council,
ensuring that student perspectives are represented in district governance. Additionally, the role includes building
connections with youth leadership programs, organizing legislative advocacy opportunities, and supporting student-
led initiatives at the district and state levels.
Key Responsibilities:
1. District-Wide Student Council:
o Work with the Superintendent’s office to establish and convene a District-Wide Student Council.
o Facilitate monthly meetings with the student council advisors, providing guidance and support in
addressing student concerns and initiatives.
2. Collaboration with Youth Leadership Initiatives:
o Work closely with the Mayor’s Youth Advisory Council (MYAC) and other regional youth
leadership programs to promote youth engagement and leadership opportunities.
o Act as a liaison between the District-Wide Student Council Advisors and other youth leadership
initiatives to ensure cohesive efforts.
3. Recommendations and Policy Development:
o Collaborate with the District-Wide Student Council Advisors to develop and present actionable
recommendations to the Superintendent’s office.
o Ensure that student voices are represented in district-wide policy discussions and decisions.
4. Board of Education Engagement:
o Meet with the Board of Education once per semester, meaning two times during the academic
year, once in the fall and once in the spring. These meetings will focus on discussing key issues
and presenting student-led initiatives, ensuring that student voices are represented in district
decision-making processes.
5. Legislative Advocacy:
o Organize and attend the Juneau legislative fly-in alongside student council representatives from
each village, advocating for student priorities and interests at the state level.
Qualifications:
Strong leadership and organizational skills.
Experience working with youth and in educational settings.
Ability to collaborate with various stakeholders, including students, administrators, and policymakers.
Excellent communication and presentation skills.
Final Note: To meet the terms of the Student Council Facilitator Added Duty Contract you are expected to fulfill the
terms of this agreement in addition to your regular duty day. Turn in Activity Report, brief narrative, attach photos
(if any).
COMPENSATION
Subject to negotiated agreement added duty compensation range and meeting all “Responsibilities”. Payment may
be prorated based on meeting the responsibilities.
