Sexual Health Program Coordinator


The Program Coordinator (PC) will oversee the daily operations of the PREIS evaluation program across multiple DCPS, charter school, and CBO sites. The PC implements, maintains, and tracks outcomes for the program. This includes site recruitment and outreach, facilitator performance, and data tracking. They will also work with internal and external partners to oversee implementation of the program, including LAYC’s Education department and the PREIS team (consisting of Child Trends, Equimundo, and LAYC). Child Trends, Equimundo, and the Latin-American Youth Center (LAYC) received federal funding through the Personal Responsibility Education Innovative Strategies (PREIS) program to implement and evaluate the Many Ways of Being (MWB) sexual health program with youth of all gender identities ages 15-19 in the District of Columbia, Maryland, Virginia (DMV) area.

LAYC/MMYC’s mission is to empower a diverse population of youth to achieve a successful transition to adulthood, through multicultural, comprehensive, and innovative programs that address youths' social, academic, and career needs. To achieve that mission, LAYC/MMYC provides services and opportunities to approximately 5,000 individuals annually to support academic achievement, promote healthy behaviors, and guide youth toward successful adulthood. LAYC/MMYC also conducts advocacy and public policy work to broaden opportunities for youth.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist Child Trends’ team in focus group implementation.
  • Coordinate implementation of both the control group, currently the Passport to Success curriculum by International Youth Foundation (IYF), and the intervention group, the Many Ways of Being curricula by Equimundo.
  • In Year 3, a total of 360 students will need to complete the program Oversee program facilitators and provide support, including but not limited to coordinating facilitator training, coordinating regular facilitator meetings, and recruiting and supervising PREIS interns and volunteers, including PREIS Youth Ambassadors.
  • Develop and maintain clear processes, protocols, and expectations for the PREIS team.
  • Meet regularly with the manager to ensure that program numbers and outcomes are being met.
  • Schedule regular one-on-one meetings with team members to discuss any challenges they may be facing and to ensure that they are on track to meet their goals.
  • Ensure that data is entered into ETO data system and provided to Child Trends as needed.
  • Maintain the PREIS budget. Work with the Program Manager to create a budget narrative and to establish and maintain the budget.
  • Coordinate the completion of the Monthly report with the team.
  • Maintain good rapport with external partners on this project and attend external meetings with PREIS team as the LAYC representative.
  • Secure partnerships to ensure cohorts are guaranteed for implementation (per semester, 5-6 cohorts are needed).
  • Develop and implement strategies to support all facilitators in successful recruitment and retention of youth, including facilitator ownership of site partnerships.
  • Meet with Youth Engagement and Retention Specialist to discuss team's implementation and retention strategies.
  • Schedule 9-month follow-ups with each site as requested by Child Trends. Assist the team in reaching out to the youth to facilitate the 9-month follow-up process.
  • The PC will also work regularly with the Testing and Outreach Specialist to conduct outreach testing at PREIS sites.
  • Become HIV, STI, and Pregnancy Testing certified.


EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • Minimum 2 years of youth development experience; school-based experience is a plus.
  • Experience working with youth in a group educational setting; background in conducting participatory learning programs a plus.
  • Bilingual or fluent/proficient: English and Spanish required.
  • Knowledge/background in sexual health and comfort in talking about sex and reproduction.

  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills.
  • Possess strong organizational and planning skills to effectively implement and coordinate events.
  • Knowledge of community and local resources.
  • Flexible schedule, including occasional evenings for school events.
  • Ability to work well and communicate with culturally diverse populations.
  • Complete criminal and child abuse/neglect clearances.
  • Flexible, energetic, positive individual with commitment to youth development in a high quality, respectful environment.
