Psychology Research Assistant


This research assistant position provides project coordination assistance to the Psychology Pathways Project, a National Science Foundation supported research project focused on understanding and supporting STEM persistence among Psychology students at CSUF.
  • Please be aware that funding for this position is awarded through a Grant/Contract over a specified period. Employment for this position beyond current Grant/Contract funding is contingent upon continued funding or new Grant/Contract.

Essential Duties

  • Assist in the day-to-day coordination and administration of this research study, e.g.:
    • Coordinate lab and project schedules
    • Keep track of ongoing research activities and track progress towards project milestones
    • Provide administrative support (e.g., scheduling meetings, contacting different internal and external parties involved in the project such as collaborators, volunteer mentors, and research participants)
    • Help file reports, draft documents, and institutional review board (IRB) applications
    • Promote project activities on social media, lab website, and other public-facing communication channels
  • Provide direct assistance with ongoing research activities as needed (e.g., participant recruitment, data collection, data cleaning/management, platform testing/evaluation/improvement)
  • Help coordinate and supervise research assistants
  • Attend regular meetings with the principal investigator (PI: Dr. Okado), lab, etc.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Minimum one (1) year of prior professional experience in an advanced administrative role (e.g., in project management, project administration, management, or similar types of leadership positions).
  • Minimum one (1) year of prior experience working on grant-funded research projects, lab research, and/or human subjects research
  • Proficient with Google/Microsoft suites (e.g., Docs/Word, Sheets/Excel) and Dropbox
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Excellent communication skills, initiative, organization, and attention to detail
  • Comfort in learning to use new online/digital platforms
  • Strong grasp of psychology literature and research methods
  • Good judgment, insight, and meta-cognition (e.g., knowing when to ask for help or clarification, catching deviations from instructions)
  • Proficient with Qualtrics, SPSS, and Canvas
  • Passion for psychological research and student outreach
EDUCATION:
  • Minimum Bachelor’s degree.


PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Prolonged sitting in front of computer. Talking, hearing, being able to work with visual files or materials on a computer.
