THIS POSTING IS FOR Patient Care Technician (Nursing Assistants) Opportunities for the 4N/5W Medical Unit at the Wilmington Campus Only.
We currently are hiring for the following shifts: (Limited openings available)
Day/Eve -11a-1130P 72hrs biweekly - 8 and 12 hour shifts Every other weekend and rotating holidays
Eve/Mid -7p-730a - 72hrs biweekly -8 and 12 hour shifts available Every other weekend and rotating holidays
Eve/Mid - 3p-330a72hrs biweekly - 8 and 12 hour shifts Every other weekend and rotating holidays
Eve - 3p-1130p - 8 hour shifts only - 9 shifts within 14 days - 72hrs biweekly Every other weekend and rotating holidays
We offer 15% shift differential for Evening and Midnight Shifts and 10% for weekend shifts.

Unit 4N/5W Medical is a 42 bed Medical Surgical Intermediate Step-Down area located on 4 North and 5 West of the Wilmington Hospital, which provides adult and geriatric inpatient and observational care on a 24-hour basis. The team on 4N/5W provides respectful, patient-centered care to the diverse and often underserved patients who receive care at Wilmington Hospital. The PCTs work with a ratio of 1:9 – 1:14. The age of the population served include adolescent, adult and geriatric. We treat diseases and disorders from the following body systems, including but not limited to: Circulatory, Endocrine, Immune, Gastrointestinal, Neurological, Pulmonary, Renal, Mental Health and Addiction Medicine. Patients are admitted for a wide array of medical diagnoses including heart failure, chest pain, stroke, sickle cell, pneumonia, COPD, diabetes, kidney failure, urinary tract infections, bacteremia and opiate withdrawal, alcohol withdrawal. The age of the population served include adolescent, adult and geriatric. The average length of stay varies depending on the diagnosis and the patient’s state of health.

The Patient Care Technician (PCT)(CNA) supports activities of daily living under the direction and supervision of the Registered Nurse. The PCT will demonstrate the skills and knowledge necessary to deliver care to adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients. Primary job duties include, but not limited to, performing and accurately recording vital signs, Accu-checks, bathing, grooming, toileting, feeding, and mobilizing patients. PCT’s are an essential part of the nursing care team with an expectation to support the organizations patient safety goals and initiatives.

- Demonstrates skills and knowledge necessary to deliver care appropriate to patients in various stages of development.
- Performs assigned duties for the comfort and well-being of patients.
- Responds to patient crisis situation and initiates interventions within the scope of responsibilities and notifies RN.
- Performs successful finger sticks on patients, following all standard laboratory safety policies.
- Performs defined procedures on point of care instrumentation.
- Provides 1:1 observation for 1-2 patient(s) experiencing a psychiatric crisis, suicidal/homicidal ideation under the order of a physician in Power chart.
- Provides 1:1 observation for 1-2 patient(s) at risk for safety based on nursing assessment and order in Power chart.
- Responds with promptness, empathy and interest to needs of patients.
- Communicates to patients, employees, and physicians using courteous verbal and written communication skills.
- Completes required in-service education.
- Performs assigned work safely, adhering to established departmental safety rules and practices; reports to supervisor, in a timely manner, any unsafe activities, conditions, hazards, or safety violations that may cause injury to oneself, other employees, patients and visitors.
- Performs other related duties as required.
Education and experience requirements:
- High school graduate or equivalent.
- Previous patient care experience including taking vital signs. Nursing student who has successfully completed clinical hours or completion of a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) program.
- Acute Care Preferred
- American Heart Association/American Red Cross/American Safety and Health Institute/Military Training Network/National Safety Council -Current BLS Certification is required.
