The Park Maintenance Technician for Spring Creek Recreation Area works under the direction of the Spring Creek Park Manager and District Park Supervisor. This technician along with the District 12 Foreman and Oahe Downstream Conservation Technician are lead maintenance workers in a large park district that consists of the main district headquarters at Oahe Downstream RA, the Spring Creek RA, Cow Creek RA, Okobojo Point RA, and 10 other park locations in Park District 12. This position will be directly responsible for maintenance and repairs to a number of park amenities including 38 modern campsites at Cow Creek RA and 26 group campsites found at Cow Creek & Okobojo Point RA's, camping cabins, 12 Spring Creek modern cabins and 4 suites, 3 comfort stations, 5 boat ramps, 3 fish cleaning stations. This position should be able to organize their assigned work, direct a seasonal maintenance crew, and be able to operate a variety of large and small equipment to meet district objectives. Supervision of Dept of Correction female trustees is required, as trustees will perform general housekeeping and janitorial services. Candidate will be primarily responsible to provide maintenance and repairs to a number of state owned lodging buildings, 3 comfort stations, and 3 fish cleaning stations. Candidate should be able to work at a number outdoor park locations throughout the year and be physically able to meet the challenges of working on and off the water maintaining a large marina system. Candidate should possess the ability to be flexible and support change in work direction and capable of lifting 75 lbs. routinely. Candidate should be able to assist in organizing work assignments for the District 12 maintenance seasonal crew. Licenses and Certifications:
SD Dept of Agriculture Commercial Pesticide Applicator License would need to be obtained within the first 5 months of employment.
Commercial Driver's License is not required, but would be preferred. The Ideal Candidate Will Have:
A good working knowledge of building and grounds maintenance, equipment operation and the ability to effectively communicate with their supervisor.
Knowledge of:
plumbing and basic electrical trouble-shooting;
housekeeping and janitorial cleaning;
carpentry;
equipment operation and maintenance;
welding;
concrete work;
landscaping;
tree planting and grass seeding;
aerial lift operation for tree pruning (no fear of heights);
chainsaw operation;
general building and grounds maintenance.
Skill to:
perform plumbing repairs and new installations;
perform minor electrical repairs to RV pedestals and cabin electrical components;
perform janitorial cleaning of park facilities and general housekeeping practices;
perform basic carpentry and wood framing to complete housing and building repairs and improvements;
perform welding repairs;
use trailers with loading and unloading of equipment that is transported throughout the district;
operate dump trucks, loaders, commercial mowers, boats, small tractors, skidsteers, and attachments to large trucks and trailers;
order supplies and materials.
Ability to:
perform basic landscaping;
meet the physical requirements of performing on the water work maintaining a large marina complex;
train others on the safe and proper operation of equipment and facility cleaning;
communicate effectively with park users and staff;
diagnosis and repair vehicles and small equipment is beneficial to the position.
