Parent Educator will serve as a Family Support Professional – to families of young children under the age 5 and prenatally in
Raleigh, Fayette, borders of Nicholas and Greenbrier Counties.
Provide health education for the family, conduct time-sensitive screenings and assessments that promote optimal child development, women’s health, family well-being and enrichment. Home Visit Responsibilities:
Educates, supports and provides referral services
Maintains an active status in the WV STARS training program
Organizes, schedules and conducts home visits with participant families
Participates in group connection activities throughout the year
Participates in community events as designated throughout the year
Will maintain a caseload of a minimum of 12 families consistently throughout the year
Recruits and enrolls participants
Maintains participant charts
Reports any safety issues (child abuse or neglect) to the Supervisor
Reports any concerns that may endanger the Home Visitor or participant family to the Supervisor
Makes bimonthly home visits based on PAT Curriculum
Follows and maintains Standards of Practice for Home Visitors
Exhibits behavior to maintain status as a parental role model
Maintains personal portfolio
Interviews and observes participants
Obtains participant case history
Assesses participant progress
Networks to build working relationships within the community
Advocates on behalf of the family
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
In-Office Days: These days will be used for personal visit planning period, gathering items for delivery to families, data entry and review, reflective supervision, administrative supervision, site meetings, CQI meetings to keep the remainder of your week available for home visits, group connections and occasional state required training. At the end of the report year, employees will be asked to work the final week of June and September in the office to finalize documentation for reporting.
Be available to your families by phone/text. Interactions/discussions must be documented. Staff are required to conduct themselves in a professional manner with families using a strength-based approach, offering dignity and respect to all. Group Connections (play dates): Your team will share the responsibility of hosting and attending 12 group connections annually.
Caseload Capacity: Parent Educators will receive family referrals and do their own recruitment as well to build a caseload of 16 families by the end of the first year of employment.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
bending, walking, sitting, stooping on a home visit to play with children and being able to lift 20-25 pounds when transporting supplies or to set up community events.
TRAVEL:
must have a valid driver's license and active auto insurance. Personal vehicle usage will be required to travel to families' homes, professional development trainings and community events for programs.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
High School Diploma or equivalent; early childhood education, development or social work degree is preferred.
5 years experience working with families of young children.
