WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING
The Office Assistant 3 provides clerical and administrative support to the public and commissioned officers at the Anchor Point Post. The duties are widely varied, complex, and require the ability to function independently with attention to detail utilizing state specific software. Tasks include (but are not limited to):
  • Assisting the public both in person and by telephone
  • Performing background checks
  • Processing special events permits
  • Accepting concealed carry perrmits
  • Approving correctable citations
  • General clerical support
  • Compiling reports and corresponding digital evidence to provide to the District Attorney’s office
  • Processing evidence
  • Reviewing trooper payroll submissions
  • Making travel arrangements

This position is one of a team of administrative staff that supports the operation of the Alaska State Troopers across the Kenai Peninsula. Efficient administrative support plays a key role in providing quality law enforcement to the community. As the sole administrative support to the Anchor Point Post, you will be an extremely valuable and appreciated member of the team.

The office is located on the Sterling Highway in Anchor Point, with ample parking. The office is light and bright, and your desk is centrally located with a sliding window through which you assist members of the public.

WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR:
We are looking for an applicant with competency in the following areas:
  • Work experience that demonstrates the ability to multi-task with frequent interruptions.
  • Experience dealing with the public.
  • Proficiency using computer programs such as Microsoft Office, Adobe, etc.
  • Experience with research and/or detailed data entry.
  • Willingness and ability to be a team player.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or the equivalent.
AND
One year of experience that includes clerical tasks such as performing reception duties, answering routine questions on services or products, retrieving information from electronic or hard copy files, recording expenditures and receipts, or typing routine correspondence.

Substitution:
Education from an accredited college may substitute for six months of the required experience (3 semester hours or 4 quarter hours equal one month of experience; 150 hours of vocational education equal one month of experience).

Special Note:
"High school diploma equivalent" means one of the following: 1) a G.E.D.; 2) completion of any basic adult education course equivalent to 480 class hours (16 weeks at 30 course hours per week); 3) acceptance in full standing by an accredited college or university; 4) highest grade of school completed plus an amount of paid or volunteer experience that totals 12 years and includes basic clerical tasks such as greeting clients, answering phones, typing, filing, sorting mail, entering data, receiving payments, making change, or maintaining logs.

Some positions in this class may require the incumbent to operate motor vehicles. Such positions require that the applicant possess a regular driver's license and be 18 years of age or older.

Some positions in this class may require skill in typing. Recruitment and selection may include this requirement.

BACKGROUND CHECK
This position requires the incumbent to submit to a fingerprint based criminal history background check. Due to the sensitive nature of this position, and required access to APSIN, an applicant with criminal convictions will not move forward in the selection process.
