New Mexico Coalition to End Homelessness - Youth Organizer for Southern NM Youth Homeless Demonstration Project Under the supervision of the Co C Director, the Youth Organizer will perform the duties outlined below to support the work of young people, agencies and NMCEH staff in the Balance of State (Co C) to end youth homelessness in Southern New Mexico. Job Responsibilities: ● Conduct organizing and outreach activities in 17 southern New Mexico counties with the purpose of bringing youth voices to the table to end youth homelessness. ● Organize and convene regular Youth Action Board (YAB) meetings ● Build the capacity of young people in building self-advocacy, setting agendas and facilitating YAB meetings using positive youth development and trauma informed principles. Create a safe environment for young people to develop their leadership skills, grow, and thrive in their communities. ● Convene and participate in gatherings that bring multiple stakeholders to the table with the purpose of ending youth homelessness in Southern New Mexico by centering the voices of young people, people of color, LGBTQ+ people, and people with disabilities. ● Execute a Coordinated Community Plan to end youth homelessness in Southern New Mexico with youth voices at the center of the plan ● Meet regularly with technical assistance providers on strategies for addressing youth homelessness. ● Provide technical support to NMCEH staff and Co C member agencies in executing HUD grant requirements, including working with others to resolve questions and issues as they arise in the delivery of homelessness services. This includes researching and referencing the YHDP grant application, the Coordinated Community Plan, best practices in addressing youth homelessness, and U.S. Housing and Urban Development regulations. ● Support regular meetings of the Balance of State Co C Membership and Co C Boards, including the execution and upkeep of meeting attendance and minutes, and coordination of the meetings. Represent YAB interests and concerns in the meetings and facilitate YAB involvement. ● Collect and enter data for the annual Housing Inventory Count and sheltered and unsheltered Point-in-Time Counts. Facilitate young people’s involvement in the Count. ● Support the involvement of the YAB in the development and maintenance of partnerships in New Mexico that benefit the growth of the Co C membership and the development of a continuum of homelessness, housing, and prevention services across the state. This includes strengthening and developing relationships with people dedicated to ending homelessness in New Mexico. ● Support the Co C Program Director through the annual Co C funding competition, including the annual review and ranking process for renewal and new project applications. Ensure the inclusion of young people’s voices and perspectives in the competition. ● Support the completion and submission of the annual Co C Consolidated Application for funding to HUD. Ensure the inclusion of young people’s voices and perspectives in the Application. ● Support the Coordinated Entry System in the outreach and navigation process that brings young people experiencing homelessness into the system. ● Other duties to support statewide efforts and plans to end homelessness that emerge from the YAB or are assigned by the Co C Program Director. Full Time: The New Mexico Coalition to End Homelessness (NMCEH) has instituted a four-day work week. Coalition hours are Monday-Thursday, 9:00 am–5:00 pm. This time off is dedicated to ensuring our staff can focus on self-care and wellness. By prioritizing their well-being, we are empowering them to continue their vital work in ending homelessness in New Mexico. Position is based in Santa Fe with support from the Albuquerque office of the New Mexico Coalition to End Homelessness. Travel is required. Qualifications: ● Ability to relate to youth and adapt well ● Open to new ideas ● Clear communication ● Compassion ● Persistence ● Attention to detail ● 18 months of youth organizing experience with a nonprofit organization, another community-based agency, a neighborhood, a network, or a city or county government. ● Must have a passion for and commitment to social justice issues and the desire to work toward the goal of ending homelessness. ● Direct experience with homelessness, either personally or in one’s family or community and/or a close familiarity with homelessness ● Strong organizational and interpersonal skills. ● Some computer skills, experience with Microsoft Office Suite, and experience using various software to process information and analyze data is preferred. ● Proof of COVID-19 vaccination.
