The Regional Transportation Authority (RTA), located in downtown Chicago, is currently accepting applications to fill the Mobility Outreach Coordinator position. The RTA oversees financing, secures funding, and conducts transit planning for the Chicago Transit Authority (CTA), Metra, and Pace. The RTA manages these three Service Boards’ five-year capital programs. Also, to help riders with disabilities and older adults across Cook, Du Page, Kane, Lake, Mc Henry, and Will counties, the agency issues Reduced Fare and Ride Free permits, assesses eligibility for ADA Paratransit service, and oversees specialized travel training.
Under the direction of the Manager of Mobility Education, the Mobility Outreach Coordinator (MOC) will provide presentations and represents the RTA at events hosted by organizations that serve older adults and people with disabilities. This position will work primarily throughout their assigned areas (Lake, Mc Henry, Northwest and North Shore Cook Counties) with occasional travel to agencies throughout the RTA six-county region as required. Staff will provide presentations and attend resource fairs to promote and educate customers on RTA Customer Services Programs, the RTA Travel Training Program, ADA accessible transportation systems (CTA, Pace, and Metra), and customers’ local transportation options. This position will also support RTA affiliate registration sites in their assigned area and assist the Manager and Mobility Outreach Supervisor with various tasks associated with the Mobility Management Program. Strong leadership and communication skills are essential.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
1. Perform in-person, phone, and email outreach to community organizations that serve older adults and people with disabilities, to schedule training presentations and events. 2. Perform scheduled training presentations primarily to older adults and people with disabilities at community organizations or virtually. 3. Maintain accurate records of outreach efforts, presentations, and event information using a CRM and Microsoft Excel spreadsheets. 4. Assists with the implementation and the evolvement of RTA’s Mobility Services Program. (e.g. Helping with the creation of mobility-related videos and educational materials, performing quality assurance tasks for the Mobility Management division, also help to identify new program enhancements/training for Mobility Management staff.) 5. Attend events and public meetings to support the RTA Mobility Services Department and RTA transit authority affiliates (CTA, Pace and Metra). 6. Become the go-to person and expert for information on public transportation and RTA programs in your assigned area. 7. Provide customer service support regarding RTA programs, questions, and complaints. 8. Acts in a manner which is consistent with the RTA’s strategic goals and objectives as approved by the Board of Directors while providing service of the highest level to our customers – both internal and external. Maintains the confidentiality of all information.
9. Performs other related duties as required or assigned that contribute to the effectiveness of the department and the RTA.
The ideal candidate has the knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to the completion of a bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Psychology, Sociology, Special Recreation, or other social services related field.
The ideal candidate must have the following:
A minimum of three (3) years of experience performing community outreach activities, including presentations.
A minimum of two (2) years of experience working with older adults and individuals with disabilities and from diverse cultural backgrounds.
Excellent public speaking and written communication skills are required.
Self-motivated and detail-orientated with the ability to manage multiple tasks at a time.
Proficient with Office Suite (Word, Excel, Power Point, Teams and Outlook) required.
Other requirements include:
Must have a good understanding of and experience using public transportation in the six-county RTA region and knowledge of ADA accessibility of the systems.
Must have a strong knowledge base of various types of disabilities, how to best interact and educate people with varying intellectual abilities, and an understanding of physical and psychological barriers that older adults and individuals with disabilities often face.
Must have a valid driver's license, use of a personal vehicle, and vehicle insurance for travel throughout the six-county region (The RTA reimburses for travel at the federal rate for mileage reimbursement).
Must have the flexibility to work some evenings and weekends on an as-needed basis for events.
Bilingual in Spanish is a plus.

The RTA offers a competitive compensation and benefits package. The RTA reimburses for travel at the federal rate for mileage reimbursement. Relocation is not available.

Salary minimum to mid-point: $56,316.95 to $70,397.00
Candidates can expect salary offers that range from the minimum to the mid-point of the salary range. RTA provides full pay ranges so candidates can consider their growth potential.
