Summary

We seek a skilled Kiln Operator to manage the kiln drying process to ensure that lumber is dried to the appropriate moisture content while maintaining quality standards and adhering to safety protocols.

Kiln Operator

Pay: $18 - $25 per hour, based upon experience

KJS Forest Products, LLC is a mill located in Guin, AL, producing posts, pilings, and poles used in agricultural, marine, and utility markets.

Duties/Responsibilities

Efficiently dry poles using computer–controlled kilns
Operate equipment to maneuver kiln charges
Continuously monitor kiln data
Maintain accurate records of drying cycles, including moisture content readings, temperature, and humidity levels and accurately document findings.
Manage the flow of poles on both the green and dry yards
Maintain clear communication with the mill managers
Conduct daily quality checks
Conduct routine maintenance and troubleshoot equipment issues
Ensure quality control of peeled logs and wood products.
Stack and sort materials
Maintain safe operations by adhering to safety procedures and regulations and utilizing safety equipment

Requirements/Skills

High School Diploma or equivalent
3-5 years of kiln operation experience
Strong understanding of wood properties as they relate to the drying processes
Basic knowledge of kiln maintenance
Excellent communication and record-keeping skills
Positive attitude and strong team collaboration
Ability to work independently and proactively
Demonstrate honesty and integrity in the workplace
Must be able to stand or sit for long periods and work in a fast-paced, noisy environment in all weather conditions
Pass a physical examination and drug test

Benefits
