This position is a member of the IT Applications Support team to perform enterprise IT applications specialized duties in the installation, maintenance, and support of City of Dothan local and cloud application systems.
Major Duties
- Provides information technology customer support to application end users in all city departments; troubleshoots and resolves problems; and provides user instruction and training.
- Assists in the implementation, configuration, and maintenance of application solutions.
- Implements, documents, and manages application backup and disaster recovery to plan.
- Implements, documents, and manages application server environment updates to standards.
- Performs necessary scripting, administration, and diagnostics of applications.
- Monitors and performs analysis to deliver essential performance metrics of application systems.
- Maintains department and city information technology security standards.
- Works as part of the applications team to maintain information technology tools and software.
- Documents information technology solutions, flow diagrams, processes, and procedures.
- Creates support documentation and troubleshooting guides.
- Works with third-party vendors to resolve hardware and software issues.
- Performs front line troubleshooting and diagnostics of enterprise applications and interfaces.
- Maintains elevated level of confidentiality in an ethical, professional, and legal manner strictly within authorized job function.
- Develops and creates reports using a variety of reporting tools.
- Progresses career to include professional development and training.
- Assists applications team to perform other related duties.

SUPERVISORY CONTROLS
The Information Technology Application Division assigns work in terms of general instructions to meet established goals and objectives. Individual and team goals & objectives are established with your supervisor each year. The supervisor spot-checks completed work for compliance with procedures and the nature and propriety of the results.
GUIDELINES
Guidelines include industry best practices, manufacturer installation, operations and repair manuals, and department and city policies and procedures. These guidelines require judgment, analytical thinking, formulating conclusions, making selections, and interpretation in application.
COMPLEXITY/SCOPE OF WORK
- The work consists of varied specialized duties. Frequent changes to industry standards and technology contribute to the complexity of the position.
- The purpose of this position is to participate in the installation, configuration, and maintenance of the city’s information technology application systems. Successful performance contributes to the efficiency and effectiveness of a variety of city operations.

- Contacts are typically to exchange information, negotiate matters, resolve problems, and provide services.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORK ENVIRONMENT
- The work is typically performed while sitting at a desk or table or while standing, walking, bending, crouching, or stooping. The employee occasionally lifts light objects.
- The work is typically performed in an office.
SUPERVISORY AND MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITY
None.
Minimum Qualifications
- Graduation from an accredited* college or university with an Associate’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Management Information Systems, or closely related field; and
- One (1) year recent experience supporting and/or implementing enterprise applications.
- Two (2) years recent experience supporting and/or implementing enterprise applications and leading small to medium (3 to 6 months) application projects preferred.
- NOTE: A Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Management Information Systems, or closely related field substitutes for one (1) year work experience.

Accredited through an agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education (USDE) or the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA).
CONDITION OF EMPLOYMENT/PROMOTION/DEMOTION/TRANSFER
Employees are required to complete Certification of Understanding & Condition of Employment/Promotion/Transfer/Demotion Form (Personnel department). Employees will also be required to complete the Information Technology Support Services Employee Confidentiality Agreement (IT department).
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
- Possession of a valid driver license and acceptable driving record. (PBA 9/10/01)
- Employees are required to complete Certification of Understanding & Condition of Employment/Promotion/Transfer/Demotion Form (Personnel department).
- Employees are required to complete the Information Technology Support Services Employee Confidentiality Agreement (IT department).
- Employees in this position are fingerprinted within 30 days of hire/promotion/transfer/demotion.
- An applicant for this position is subject to various background investigations up to and including a criminal, credit, past employment, and reference checks.
- An applicant for this position is subject to extensive background checks (since the age of majority) to determine eligibility and ensure requirements are met for this position.
- Employees in this position are required to complete and pass the Criminal Justice Information System (CJIS) security training and exam every two (2) years after the initial training.
- Employees in this position must pass a criminal background check every five (5) years after initial/pre-employment.
- Employees are required to submit to Drug and Alcohol testing in accordance with the City of Dothan policy, which includes pre-employment and random tests for the duration of employment in this position. (PBA 8/13/12)
Must meet the City of Dothan’s employment physical standard, which includes drug/alcohol testing.
