Overview The HR Generalist demonstrates competence in all major human resources functions, with this position having a primary focus in protected leave and disability benefit processes and compliance,. The HR Generalist also works closely with the Payroll Department, communicating personnel transitions and extended absences, and to ensure compliance with the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA). Will provide assistance and act as a backup to benefits administration. Responsibilities Prepares Protected Leave (FMLA/OFLA/PLO) paperwork, processes designations, tracks leave, and maintains records. Prepares, submits, and tracks long term disability and short term disability claims. Assists the HR Director/Manager with tracking and processing ADA paperwork and workers’ compensation claims. Provides input and direction to payroll regarding employee absences, wage and hour law, and personnel transitions. Maintains compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, and recommended best practices; reviews policies and practices to maintain compliance with regulatory changes. Assists HR Director/Manager with compliance and reporting projects. Benefits Administration backup: Responds to benefit inquiries from managers and employees on plan provisions, benefit enrollments, status changes, and other general inquiries. Assists with the open enrollment and ACA reporting processes.
Qualifications 3 years HR experience, or possess an equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience in a healthcare setting a plus. Understanding of HR principles and practices. Effective verbal and written communication skills, including ability to explain systems and procedures. Strong computer skills, including MS Excel and MS Word. Possess strong organizational and analytical skills and have the ability to examine documents for accuracy and completeness as well as prepare records and reports in accordance with verbal or written instructions. Excellent customer relations skills, work well with diverse groups, comfortably manage changing priorities and regulatory requirements, adhere to timelines, and effectively manage fluctuating workflow demands. Possess business experience sufficient to meet the demands of the position, and computer proficiency is required. Must have strong computer skills, including MS Excel and MS Word. Must pass state-required background and DMV checks; Candidate must be able to work independently and flexibly, under general supervision.
